i love my viper-50. im surprised no one mentioned the fret access tho, for me it is the only thing that i noticed. the pickups are great, the feel is great, and if i ever find anyone else complaining about no numbers on the knobs, ill fly kick them in the face. dude, who cares? the viper-50 is my favourite in the viper series.
POSTED: 04/18/2007 09:44am

i played it today in a shop, and i loved it. not MORE than my SG but not dramatically less either. so yeah, im getting it.

Anybody reading this and considering it as a gigging guitar, I wouldn't advise it. Great if you're sitting down, but the playability when you're running around on stage playing it is not so great. It's heavy as f*ck, and not well balanced, so I have found it quite annoying, especially when your playing alot around the lower frets (E.g. Cannibal Corpses "Hammer Smashed Face" is a bitch to play on stage with this thing)
POSTED: 10/04/2008 04:47am

all the guitars that are factory made with passive electronics are built with a solid body so unless you want to tear a chunk out of the guitar itself your limited to passive humbuckers
POSTED: 03/23/2009 07:51pm

Now i disagree with you. I own a Gibson SG special and the viper 50. the viper 50 has a such better clean tone, its so full and smooth that is gives me a boner, and it kicks ass for metal. the only instance where the epiphone would be better is for hard rock.
POSTED: 09/07/2009 09:11pm

A friend of mine has this guitar, and i`ve played it alot, this guitar has sick tone, the sound of it is very metallic(you`ll know what i mean when you hear it)
and hardhitting, the neck tends to drop a bit, kinda like BC:RICH, but the best thing about this guitar(in my opionion) is how easy it is to get pinch harmonics, with this guitar, everybody can do it easily and no need for effort.
They are passive pickups, but they are good ones(by my standards) The guitar takes some getting used to, i used a 25 1/2 scale Strat copy from J&D(SUCKS BALLS) as a beginners guitar, and this one is shorter 24,75 i think.
Fits nicely with straightforward metal, hard rock isn`t very much godlike on this guitar, but it can if you force her.
If you want a cheap guitar with the most possible attack, you won`t ever get that..but this is a good alternative, is good for drop D and standard D tuning.
All in all, this guitar is for metal spawns
Go get`em!
POSTED: 07/19/2011 06:59am

Hi all, I'm a guitar doctor and I'm currently upgrading one of these Viper 50's so far I've replaced the cheapo Korean T.O.M and stop bar with a superior quality tonepros locking set. A question I see you all say this model has ESP LH 100 pickups, well I pulled put the bridge p/up and I certainly did not see the words ESP or LH or 100 this thing has B&D humbuckers which look and sound exactly the same as the Alnico V buckers I pulled out of my Epi Les Paul!! Are these actually ESP,s ??? I've never heard of em I've done a bit of research but can't find anything about em. Oh I make better guitars than this one too!!! LTD axes in my opinion are over priced (down here in Australia) and extremely over rated!!
POSTED: 12/05/2011 06:46pm

IMO Charlie it has more in common with a Les Paul then a true SG, but is a bit lighter. Neck heavy as well.
POSTED: 04/04/2013 11:59pm
