One of my band members has this guitar, it sounds awesome when he plays it, makes whatever he plays sound like its the record (through a fender). But it looks ace as well, I would have definately bought one if I had the chance.
POSTED: 08/17/2006 05:37pm

squiers, even affinity series (which is what i have) are decent guitars for beginners right out of the box, sure they're no fenders, but for the price... they're great. i also have an epiphone LP Custom black, and i have to say, it kicks the ass out of any squier i've ever played... but this one seems decent, when i saw a couple of my favorite bands playing i thought i might get one of these, so i'm torn too, but given the chance, i'd go for the epiphone (esp. if it's a custom) unless the other option was def. a custom tele... then i guess for the price, i might go for the tele.
POSTED: 07/18/2007 12:29am

I'd say a $200 Squier is better than a $200 Epiphone based solely on the fact that all lower-end Epiphones seem to have poor tuners. Although once you get into the $300 price range the Epiphone takes the lead. That doesn't mean I'll switch to Epi, after all I'm a Strat/Tele guy.
POSTED: 10/29/2007 09:31pm

I'm a 30-year pro player and recording engineer who has and does own everything from this guitar to 5000-dollar Gibsons... a couple of points...
A: The Epiphones and Squires are as different as the upscale Gibsons and Fenders they're based on, making a comparison virtually MEANINGLESS! Which one would suit you depends FAR more on what style you play and what sound you're looking for.
B: I own the "Custom II" version of this guitar with P-90's, and also have an Epi Dot Deluxe... They BOTH needed proper setup out of the box, and now BOTH play exceptionally well (Even my $4900 Les Paul needed to be properly set-up!) They have quite different sounds, and work well for different styles. Let's put it THIS way... if you're planning to play extremely heavy stuff, get the Epi... if you're more into blues or classic rock, The Tele may be a better bet. I strongly suggest you try the p-90 version, especially if you like that early Elvis Costello kinda 'honk' tone. It also does Rockabilly exceptionally well, and with the p-90's, you can get a TON of great 60's and 70's tones, from classic Beatles (who actually used an EPIPHONE Casino with P-90's for a lot of their mid-career recordings) to that great trashy Neil Young sound.
POSTED: 07/02/2008 01:53pm

It's great and so is the les paul, but if you play more twangy country, blues, folk and indie stuff, get yourself the telecaster. If you play more blues, rock, metal and jazz, get yourself the les paul.
POSTED: 07/25/2008 07:21am

For the price this is a very good guitar when set up properly. If you compare it to cheaper starter guitars there is a big difference in the quality. This was the second guitar I bought after my cheap strat copy and I bought the P90 version. GaryStack gives a good run through on what is Tele Custom P90 is like.
Give one a play in the shop and see what you think.
POSTED: 12/23/2008 04:01pm

Oh, and Squier beat Epiphone for starter guitars. Some of the higher stuff, too. Epiphone REALLY overprice their guitars, up to £700! And for that price, they're crap!
POSTED: 10/18/2009 06:51am

I bought this for $200 dollars in Washington (music 6000) abd it was well worth it. The Duncan Designed pickups do pick up some interference, mainly from my TV, but they sound awesome if you know how to set it up correctly. I play through a Vox ACVT-30 watt and it sounds really good. It is kind of noisy though. But overall, it's a good buy.
POSTED: 12/14/2009 03:17pm

If i had to choose between a gibson studio and the squier telecaster custom. i would choose the gibson... then sell it and get two of the squier telecaster customs.haaha
POSTED: 02/08/2010 07:53pm

Ive had this guitar for almost two years now. At first i hated it but it grew on me. Now it is played almost as much as my main guitar (Schecter C1 FR). If this guitar came in White it would be even more valuable. THe only complaint i have is the pickups. they are alright but i will switch them out when i feel the need to. definitely worth the money.
POSTED: 07/11/2010 01:40am

y do ppl come on to these things just to trash talk whatever guitar company they happen to have a pick on, it doesnt matter what the guitar or what style its all the player, hell iron maiden, judas priest, anvil, saxon, and malmsteen, all used fenders throughout their careers, anyone that can badmouth a guitar because it doesnt "fit" a particular style, yeah my gibson sg is a higher quality than my squire tele but when u play either the sound you get out of them dpends on the player, so any one buying aguitar first or not the best advice is to try everything u can and see what feels right the brand means next to nothing
POSTED: 08/04/2010 10:08pm

Yeah thats the guitar shops fault not the factory Set is up properly before bitching
POSTED: 11/23/2010 10:44pm

THIS SQUIER IS AN AMAZING GUITAR FOR THE MONEY. The humbuckers are very good and the hardware is close to Fender quality. ALL guitars buzz when next to a computer, by the way. The review by "Americanprick is just a bunch of beginner nonsense, and is very inaccurate in just about evey way..
POSTED: 09/23/2011 04:36am

I spent ages looking for a guitar that I wanted to buy and I played many. For me, it's the left hand which does the talking on a guitar and if it doesn't sit well then it's no good what name is on the head. I played all sorts of big names but wasn't happy til I picked this up. The feel of it was just right and suited my style. I've had it for two years and I prefer it to my MIM Fender Tele which is both shoddy and noisy. I play it through Marshall foot pedals (Jackhammer, Chorus and Delay) and a Fender Frontman 212R clean channel and I can make it sing. For the price it's great.
POSTED: 03/22/2013 11:48am
