I could say that they're a bunch of phonies, who's ripping off fallout boy, but it would contradict my saying "Its impossible to come up with something original" Instead I will say...

Its nothing I havent heard. No surprises here. Clearly, they are all talented musicians. Its a shame they couldnt use those talents to produce a better genre of music. The writing is crappy... The drummer knows whats goin on. The bassist has it. The GUitarist is nothing special. I've heard more dynamic rythm from garth brooks.....
POSTED: 04/06/2006 12:52pm

THEY SUCK. EMO POP SHIT.

You know, you can express your opinion without sounding like a complete jackass:

I can see why people would like this record. I've only heard a few songs off of it but since those few songs sound pretty much exactly the same I think I've got the jist of the album. I don't like this band because, like I just said, most/all of their songs sound the same. This morning I saw the video for whatever song they have and in the video theres a wedding and he's like "I chime in, haven't you people ever heard of closing the godamn door." I had heard "The Only Difference" 3 times before, but forgot the name of the song. I thought the video was for that song, that's how alike the songs sound. Their vocalist, although very similar in tone to Fall out Boy's, has much more intricate melody, which is very catchy. In my opinion, these intricate melodies are pretty much the only thing attractive about Panic! At the Disco. The music is simple, and I recognize that there can be simple, and GOOD music, but this simple is pretty mediocre, it's unoriginal, it's boring. The music is also poppy, and again, I recognize there can be a good, catchy poppy, but this is sold out, boring, catchy poppy. I went back and relistened to "The Only Difference" and I like the techno thing in the middle of it. I think if they stuck to that kind of "The Faint"-ish sound, they might be a little more appealing.

So pretty much they only thing they've got going for them is a relatively decent vocalist with nice melody, and a(n almost wasted) potential to be a better electronic band.
POSTED: 04/06/2006 06:36pm

Let's just get this out in the open now, it is getting damn near impossible to become original, everyone has an influence that they mimic. Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco, sound like Joy Divison at times, granted there is a different beat. Just wait, cause when everyone starts getting on bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Soilwork, and other metal bands they will claim that they sound un-orginal, but in reality it's not about being original, it's all about the expression. This is Art, this is how it works, and I may seem like I'm just babbling, but if you try to read this with your mind open, then it will make sense.
POSTED: 04/06/2006 07:13pm

Very true with some bands. I think Panic does sound like FOB, but there are some original bands i.e. Coheed and Cambria (NOT Rush inspired), Funeral for a Friend, and Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave.
i think it would be wise of you to actually read what i wrote. i said "use" those instruments. and it really doesnt matter if they dont play those instruments because its something different. let me ask you if you can name another band that has their sound? perhaps you should think with an open mind? i think its a bit hypocritical when people condemn a band for being different, and they say that being different is a good thing. just putting that out there.
POSTED: 04/13/2006 09:56pm

Is it just me that thinks that Panic! At The Disco sound nothing like Fallout Boy? Also, Panic! aren't anything like emo. People should really stop throwing the word 'emo' at every band that comes out these days. I find Panic! pretty catchy and they have some really good songs in my opinion.

as a band, they aren't too much like fall out boy. but when i first heard "the only difference between martyrdom..." i could have sworn it was pat singing. but then after searching the net for panic info, i was proven wrong. thats the only song brendan really sounds like pat. but thats it.

overall, i like the cd. i'm a mixed genre person, mostly liking metal/hardcore stuff but i like FOB and PATD. it's good stuff. sometimes metal is just too heavy and you need something to calm down to.

i just rambled my brains out. never again.
POSTED: 05/13/2006 01:39am

seriously guys, if you're a fan of metal or whatever, you're not going to like them. just like if you're not a fan of pop-punk, cabaret or emo voices, you're not going to like them. but their lyrics arent emo as in 'oh woe is me my life sucks' its not like that at all
if you dont like them, stop dissing them and go back to ur own genre of music
I'm sorry, I know that this has nothing to do with Panic! At The Disco, but Green Day never did such a thing, just because they became popular doesn't mean they sold out. I'm sure Panic! At The Disco won't do it either. They are both really great bands and should be treated as such. They are shaping the teenage culture the right way. I mean at least they are better than the rap and hip hop stuff out there.
Besides, I believe that Green Day's old music was also about teenage stuff, you know, drugs, masturbation, goofing off, dating, etc. And they weren't considered sell outs or said "shaping the teenage culture in the wrong way".

Honestly I listen to all kinds of music. I don't think it's the music itself that bothers me. Let's just say rather that song, type of instruments/ vocals used, and the lyrics. One of my favorite songs by Panic! At The Disco is "I Write Sins...." I find it very different and has a beat. People say that they sound the same as Fall Out Boy, well so be it. I'm not saying anything bad. Equally annoying is not a phrase to describe them. I have listened to them about 3623424 times along with Fall Out Boy. I see that every singer, band, musical artist are different. If they, in P!ATD, want or choose to sound like Fall Out Boy than so be it. Personally I think they are quite smart in many different ways. One example would be having their song titles having partially or nothing at all to do with their songs. Everyone's opinions about people are different, mine is no different. I thought that I would state my obvious.
musical culture these days is getting less and less original and for some reason, people are getting more and moreinto it. nowadays when i turn on much music, all i see are rap videos that make women out to be objects and emo bands with their good looks and whiny voices. and people seem to think that this is acceptable. get real.i know that panic at the disco is a new sounding band so people are obviously going to shun them immedietly for trying something new.I am not one to shun these bands but i also have my limits as to whats music, and bands like panic at the disco who shaped teenage culture almost immedietly in all the wrong ways.the same thing happened with greenday. i remember when greenday used to be good, but now they concentrate on common teenage issues in their lyrics so that teenagers can relate to their songs and go out and buy their album. mainstream music today is just a moneymaking process and popularity contest which angers me
I agree when Panic! gets a 9 and Pink Floyd's Animals gets a 7 there are problems, Zeppelin 3 is also Rated under this FYI,

Panic! has to be my favorite band of all time. The unique mixtures of instruments and the talent shown makes their music fun to listen to but at the same time, meaningful and remembering. Brendon Urie's (lead singer) voice has a nice, chilling sound to it that makes you pop out of your seat and pay attention. Jon Walker (bass) and Spencer Smith (drums) really show a lot a talent and uniqueness. Ryan Ross (lyrics, guitar, back-up voacls)does a wonderful job of writing the lyrics and making Panic! at the Disco complete. This band is something new for everyone, it's a totally new sound. Unlike My Chemical Romance (even though I love them)or Taking Back Sunday, Panic!'s songs have depth. They really save a place in your heart. It amazes me to see such young, talented people, go so far in life so quickly. I don't think Panic! is an emo band, whatever "emo" is. Their music is emotional but nowadays people see emo as many different things. if you dont think panic! sounds good live then think about this: there are so many screaming girls that it is hard to hear. I have heard Panic! in the studio, practicing and they actually sound really good. If you don't like Panic! then fine, you can have an oppinion. But if you don't like them, why waste your time making a hurtful comment? Panic! dedicates their whole life to making music that people will remember and enjoy. They work really hard and you shouldn't insult them. They do it all for their fans.
POSTED: 04/11/2007 11:01pm

A review said that Fall Out Boy is too Punk Rock.Yeah, and Slayer is too Pop-y.While i admit this band is really original, and i do admire that, I don't like anyhting else about them.Brendan Uries voice annoys the shit outta me, he tries to imitate Patrick Stump waaay too much, and to be honest, people only like them becuase they think it's cool.Personally, I thik both bands suck, but FOB is sitl better than Panic. Also they suck live, the singer uses effects, just listen youll hear it.Overall, this is the worst band ina while, and i hope that they dont make another album.Go ahead, sue me for saying it
POSTED: 11/06/2007 11:43am

This band by far is my #2 fav. I can't even explain how they've inspired me. I love how unique this album is. I love how the first half of the album has more of a techno/up to date feel to it, and the second half has a 1920s-40s feel the takes you back in time. I was most pleased when I saw the video for But It's Better If You Do and it was exactly how I pictured it to be. I was upset when after I write sins not tragedies because a video because P!ATD was clamed by many "their favorite band". others were beginign to like them for their looks and not for the music, the lyrics, the cause.
i'd have to say my favorite songs would be the entire second half. It was a thrill for me when most of those songs where turned into vids. They are from Vegas you idiot. And someone in the comments said they were selling out? How the hell can you sell out on your first album?! Tell me! And for you naysayers, have you even listened to the whole CD? Just because they are good looking men, and your girlfriend listens to them, doesnt mean they suck. Panic is incredibly original, especially their second album Pretty. Odd. It has incredible strings and horns, and the guitar is steps above their first album, and lyrics have become abstract and thought provoking..... so um..... yah!
POSTED: 03/18/2008 10:36pm

Almost like Blink-182 only they are actually good, but oh well who am I to compare anyone, but then again who are any of us to compare anybody to anybody else we are all meant to be different so for the haters to people with different opinions grow up.

look. anyone who thinks panic! are bad, i respect ur opnions. but how can a band be bad if this album has sold 2.2 million albums worldwide?
they wrote this when they were seventeen, and if anyone out there can imagaine writing a better, more catchy album when theyre that age or when they were that age then i cant wait to see it in shops.
p!atd are also one of the best live bands around.
POSTED: 10/25/2008 02:52pm
