Album covers used to be the first thing a music fan could see when they walked into a shop.
It's a great way to make a first impression, and anyone who still trawls through record stores knows that sometimes a good cover is enough to convince you an album is good. It often works, too.
But some musicians have a bad instinct for visual art, and it can translate to some truly awful album covers.
Dance of Death by Iron Maiden? Shoddy album cover!
MC Pooh - Funky As I Wanna Be
Herbie Mann - Push Push
Richard And Willey - Funky Honkey, Nasty Nigger...
Haha, that's great seeing Steel Panther on there as Metal Skool. Reminds me of "Look What the Cat Dragged In," which is probably equally as bad album cover-wise.
ridiculed? most people i talk to about Pantera ridicule the glam albums. the only people who ridicule pantera's 90's stuff usually complain that theyre rednecks or they dont enjoy "groove metal." so, thats just like your opinion man.
"#18. Your album cover should include at least one of the following: fire, steel, weird glowing magical items, irregularly muscular men, fists thrust into the air, weaponry, magic creatures (preferably dragons), or bright beams of light around somebody/something. "
A piece of crap album cover from a band I take seriously, Born Again by Black Sabbath. I won't pick any of these albums, because it's not like I'd seriously listen to any of these guys anyways. However, for a band with such a great catalog, Born Again's cover is as fugly as they get.
First of all, Fastway's "Trick Or Treat" album cover is actually damn awesome! I mean, look at it!
It's evil, dark and menacing, it stands out too!
Also, Metal Skool shouldn't really be there, it's actually Steel Panther before they were Steel Panther and the album art is a parody of Poison's "Look What The Cat Dragged In", you should be picking on that one instead.
I can't ****ing believe Metal Skool is winning the poll. Its ****ing Steel Panther you r-tards. The worst one there HAPPENS to be one thats DELIBERATELY SUPPOSED TO LOOK SHIT? You all deserve Darwin awards. It shouldn't even be on the ****in list.
I only picked Kevin DuBrow because I saw Quiet Riot at a "FREE" show in S. Korea and he was a total dick. He acted like he was a badass rockstar. I guess he doesn't realize that he's just a washed up rockstar in a mediocre wannabe metal band.
Maybe you can get away with the deathgrind. But nothing else really comes close. Its just like nu metal, just because they use distorted guitars and are influenced by metal bands doesn't mean they are actually metal themselves.
You can't honestly tell me that Regurgitate or Dead Infection aren't metal bands. And anyway, even if it isn't metal, how come they can't be on this list, but a swing album by Pat Boone can be on it? That seems pretty silly to me.
Don't ask me, I didn't make the article.
They may have an occasional metal riff, but the overall song structures aren't metal. Calling them metal would be like calling Tesla a blues band or Blind Guardian a classical band.
The Scorpions original cover for the Virgin Killer album?
Or how about Lovedrive, where you have a guy stringing bubblegum off of a woman's boob?
The artwork on the very first Pantera album, back when they were more of a pop metal band, is badly rendered and kinda in the same league as the Battleaxe album.
Then you have the cover of the first Lita Ford solo record.
And how about AC/DC's If You Want Blood or Highway to Hell? Both are rather cheesy. The first Mercyful Fate EP with Nuns Have No Fun on it is in black and white and shows a naked woman being crucified and the quality of the artwork is very amateurish.
What about the very first print of Megadeth's Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! album? Before the remastered cover was released. I'd say that one was aweful.
Megadeth's original artwork cover for their first album is pretty horrible too...even Megad Dave Mustaine himself said it sucked! Also, Guns N Roses's 'Spaghetti Incident.'
I don't know about other people's opnions but Cannibal Corpse and Cattle Decapitation have come up with some shockingly horrible covers too!
