Spiders From Mars to Play Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold the World' Live in Full
Two members of David Bowie's legendary backing band, the Spiders From Mars, will lead an orchestra to play Bowie's seminal "The Man Who Sold the World" live in full in September.

Woody Woodmansey and Tony Visconti will play alongside a 12-strong ensemble to perform Bowie's 1970 classic, the recording process of which they were a large part of, at a show in London later this year.

"The Man Who Sold the World" was the first album Bowie made with the Spiders From Mars, who then went on to collaborate with the music icon on "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" and "Aladdin Sane."

Alongside guitarist Mick Ronson and bassist Trevor Bolder, Woodmansey and Visconti were instrumental in Bowie's career during the 1970s. Ronson passed away in 1993; Bolder in 2013.

Visconti and Woodmansey will be joined by 12 musicians, including Spandau Ballet's Steve Norman and Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17, to play "The Man Who Sold the World" at London's the Garage on September 17.

It's reported that Bowie has given his blessing to the project, although he won't be there himself, of course.

"This is not so much a tribute band, but a collection of musicians who were really influenced by Bowie and that era of music, myself included," Steve Norman told the Guardian. "Without Bowie, I don't know how Spandau Ballet would have existed.

"The opportunity to play with Woody Woodmansey and Tony Visconti, well it's the nearest you get to seeing the Spiders from Mars, apart from having Bowie there himself."
