We all know how important musicians are to a band, but the secret to true greatness is coupling that with a timeless voice.
History has treated us to hundreds of worthy entrants to this list, but on Wednesday you voted for your favorite singers so we could find out once and for all who the best singers of all time are.
The result is a fantastic top 10, but you might be shocked at who missed out. Bruce Dickinson was only one spot away at number 11, and renown voices from Thom Yorke, Matt Bellamy and Serj Tankian also came pretty close. And Jeff Buckley only made it to number 20 - shocking!
The pranksters were out in force as usual, nominating the likes of Rick Astley, William Shatner and "the drunk guy who sung 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in the back of a cop car". Too bad they didn't get more votes!
As usual, thanks for voting. Here's your official top 10 best singers.
10. Ronnie James Dio (Dio, Black Sabbath)
A metal God to many, but Ronnie died in 2010 from stomach cancer. His influential career saw him front Elf, Rainbow and Black Sabbath, but his best known song "Holy Diver" came from his solo project Dio.
9. Maynard James Keenan (Tool)
Keenan fronts progressive metallers Tool (where's that new album we were promised this year?), and has appeared on albums from Deftones and Rage Against The Machine. His style is tender and precise, but as the compilation video here proves, he's got an almighty roar on him too.
8. Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam)
What would Pearl Jam be without Eddie's awesomely powerful vocals? This video shows a track from his solo ukelele album so you can hear his voice in all its isolated glory.
7. Jim Morrison (The Doors)
An early member of the so-called '27 club', Jim died in 1971. His growling Stooges-esque vocals was a huge influence on British indie rock, with dozens of copycat artists still breaking into the UK charts decades after his death.
6. James Brown
You've got to envy the funk genre. Brown is one of the most rocking dudes in history, with an energy that would put many younger acts to shame. It might be down to certain "extra-curricular" substances, but his voice and ability to work up the crowd make him a deserving entrant to your top 10 this week.
5. Layne Staley (Alice In Chains)
Staley helped define the grunge sound of the early 90s, but drug addiction led to his premature death in 2002.
4. Rob Halford (Judas Priest)
There's power metal screams, and then there's Rob Halford exhaling a simple breath. With one of the most impressive vocal ranges in metal, Rob's voice will echo on for decades.
3. Chris Cornell (Soundgarden)
Let's ignore the Timbaland-produced solo album from a few years back, and focus on his contributions to the Soundgarden discography. It was a pleasure to see their return and new album this year, of course.
2. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
Enough of the grunge artists, let's pay tribute to a classic rock legend. Often emulated but never bettered, Plant showed the world what a real rock singer was all about: power, presence and sex appeal.
1. Freddie Mercury (Queen)
A deserving winner. Freddie fronted one of the greatest stadium rock bands ever, and has the voice to match it. This famous video from Wembley shows him challenge the audience of thousands with a call-and-reply game. Freddie wins, of course.
Thanks for voting for your favorite singers of all time. This is the final top 10 of the year, but make sure you vote in the UG awards posts over the coming weeks.
Did your favorite singer miss out? Who would you add? Let us know in the comments.
You got to wonder how he was so succesfull with "no talent". Obviously, you dont like the guy, but it shows your sheer stupidity to say he has no talent. Do I like John Denver? No. Do I like Cradle of Filth? Of course not. But they're talented musicians, of course.
And since when is success measure for talent, especially in showbiz (bieber, britney, psy, rihanna ...). Don't jump to conclusion that someone is stupid just because they don't share your opinion.
kurt was a massively more talented songwriter than he was vocalist, but yet his vocals definitely helped define Nirvana. So his vocals would be remembered for the character, not for the actual capabilities
People may say and "dislike" as they will, but Kurt was awesome because just about every had that catchy melody and because he has a pretty signature voice and songwriting process. Fantastic examples are "Dumb", "Polly", "Drain You", etc.... even "Sappy" was friggin' awesome.
The awesomeness and talent of Kurt Cobain is evident by the above posts! Controversy loved him. He definitely was talented, no doubt. but kill me if you think he wasn't unique. try covering any of his songs, and you'll see what I mean.
Of course, my list is very subjective, but really thank you) By the way, Freddie, James, Jim and Maynard are also among my favorite singers, but they were already listed in UG's top)
I absolutely agree with Freddie as #1 and Plant+James Brown, and maybe Cornell and Morrison on the list, but seriously UG?! Everyone basically voted for their favorite metal/grunge singer for the most part! Where's:
-ANY of the Beatles (especially McCartney and Lennon). I shouldn't even have to say that!
-Stevie Wonder
-Thom Yorke
-ANY of the highly acclaimed soul singers (Aretha Franklin, Etta James)
-Elvis Presley (who influenced half of the people on the list, ESPECIALLY Vedder)
-Bowie, Janis Joplin, etc....
It just goes on and on...
List should be renamed to Top 10 Metal Singers With Special Guests Freddie Mercury and James Brown.
The fact that you think everyone on the list, excluding Freddie Mercury and James Brown, are metal singers say an awful lot about the level of thought behind your opinion.
Well let's look at the list, shall we? Dio, Tool, Priest, and Soundgarden are all metal in some shape or form, I think that's pretty obvious. Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains are grunge (and I guess Soundgarden too), and I addressed this in my second sentence. Zeppelin are widely regarded as metal or metal pioneers (whether you agree with it or not). The majority of this list is metal/grunge, which completely omits all the highly acclaimed singers from numerous other genres of music that have much more validity to "Best Singer of All Time" than the majority of the people on this list. Looking at all of the comments on Wednesday's question, it seemed to me that everyone was just picking their favorite metal singer and not considering some of the other singing greats that I listed above. That was the purpose of my comment.
Honestly, I'm quite disappointed in this site that a moderator would insult me in such an immature manner.
Its a bit of fun matey....I'm sorry your fave singers didn't make the list but that's the way it goes sometimes.
But don't be mad at who did make the top ten cos it's all subjective anyway and in the grand scheme of things it means nothing.....this time next week no one will give a shit.
This isn't about me being upset that my favorite singers didn't get chosen (in fact, the ones aren't listed aren't my favorites!). I'm more just disappointed in the lack of versatility in this list. I tried to make a tongue-in-cheek comment on this, but I guess most people don't get the sarcastic remark I made at the end. I'm not an idiot, I know that not everyone on this list is metal.
If you went to a music site that was populated by people who enjoyed opera and asked "what are the top 10 best singers" you would get a list that was predominately opera and classical singers. If you went to a site populated by people who enjoyed folk and asked the same question you would get a list of mainly folk singers...and so on for every genre of music, be it blues, rap, R and B or whatever....
This site quite obviously has a large part of its community into rock and metal, so the "winners" list comes as no surprise.... to me at least.
Right, but if you look at the tab trends, this site is every bit as much into pop music as they are hard rock/metal. Those users just don't tend to make much noise in the comment section of the news articles.
sorry about the obvious first comment riding but most of the singers people are bringing up (such as thom york, matt bellamy, serj tankien, and bruce dickinson) are actually in the top 20, does everyone just not read the first few paraghraphs or do people just not care?
Its actually a pretty decent list, kind of surprised Layne Staleys that high, great singer but I think Dickinson and Buckley are better. Just my opinion.
No disrespect to anyone on this list, but I have a hard time believing Bruce Dickinson got fewer votes than some of the guys on here. Aside from that omission I am pretty satisfied with the list.
Yes, seriously. Neither Jim or Maynard got what it takes to figure in a list of best singers of all time... distinctive voices? Yes. Best singers of all time? No.
I mean there are WAY too many amazing singers for everyone to agree on this list. You could even argue that there are more amazing singers than there are great guitarists. People like Brad Delp, Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, and Frank Sinatra (if we're talking about best singers of all time without a genre)of course need to be considered. I'm sure if you told Rob Halford that he was voted a better singer than Frank Sinatra he would laugh in your face.
Overall though, I can't say there is one bad singer on this list. Best Singers' of all time though? If there wasn't a controversy, UG wouldn't post it
Sinatra would be one of the last people I would want to see in a dark alley. Sure, many musicians were affiliated with gangs (ex. Rolling Stones and Hells Angels) but Sinatra was in the mob. Dont mess with the mob.
Not really, he had a period of a few years where he was pretty awful. But before that (ie Awake to Train of Thought) and after (A Dramatic Turn onwards) he is pretty damn amazing.
I reckon I know why. LaBrie may be technically brilliant (the amount of power he can put into any note he sings is ridiculous), but he's very much a marmite singer. People either really like him or they REALLY hate him.
I'm in the former, but I'll admit that he's not perfect.
I would have added Bruce Dickenson cause im a maiden fan, and i mention fank sinatra (not sure if that will earn me hate buuuut i had to throw him in there) buut anyways aside from complaining i think this is a great list
What a terrible freakin list.... Chris Cornell? The douche from tool? Eddie Vedder?layne staley? Jim Morrison? This might honestly the all time worst list ug has compiled
Well Jim's not really a no-talent ass clown if you admit he's a great poet. Sure he didn't have the range or tone that other great singers had, but he definitely did well with his baritone vocals, and he's still an amazing poet and lyricist. He also influenced a pretty large quantity of musicians since he pretty much coined the term "rock star". I don't see why you're bitter.
ronnie will always be my #1 singer but that could be just because im a die hard metal fan. would have liked to see steve grimmet (gream reaper, onslaught) here but good list.
yeah i mean to me way better than mercury.mercury always sang with exact same voice.mathey always experimented with voice high pitched and awsome screams.freddie sang the same as mathey in the last two album witch are medicore
You just said Matthew Bellamy is a better singer than Freddie Mercury? If Matthew Bellamy ever read this he might hunt you down himself. It's not even close, dude
wtf is so good about him hes the most over rated singer in the most over rated band in existence. Hes good but hes not even close to being in this conversation
One of the best lists I've seen so far on UG, obviously with the amount of talent out there some peoples favourites won't have made it but that's natural with any top 10.
Definitively my tastes for "best vocalist" differ a lot from the average UGer... Really Dio all the way back to #10? I'd putt him well above others on the list... Not nay saying them but it seems more of a popularity contest. If so, then yes those other guys are more "popular" than Dio.. Among others...
Scrolled down looking for Patton... sorry, this list is invalid.
Nah, it's not bad, but more people should be aware of what that guy can do. Anything, that is.
I totally agree. Patton's talents are not only present in the Rock and Metal genres but he is highly successful in other forms as well. I mean how many Rock vocalists do people know who also sing Opera and take part in Experimental projects? I guess like the stuff you posted below with John Zorn.
Even if you donnt like tool, there is no doubting maynards singing abilites, not to mention the guy is a genius when it comes to writing music. Obviously youve never taken the time to listen to one of his many brilliant albums.
While I wholeheartedly agree with Freddie being #1, Dio's placement on the list profoundly disturbs me - especially considering some of the people above him.
Decent List, I actually agree with most of the list, but don't agree with Vedder being in the top 10 when you could have had an innumerable amount of other folks there.
I think, while Bruce Dickinson is great and one of my personal favourites (easily #2 after Dio), he really should have been in there based on his technical ability and showmanship. James Brown made it on vocals and performance, whereas Bruce has the same thing going for him... Kinda hard to agree with his exclusion when James Brown is up there.
I missed that dead singer from iron maiden... didnt he have some sort of technique that you could hear him sing clearly without a mic all the way across a football field?
Freddy deserves the number 1 tho.
oh and I also missed Matt Bellamy and Roger Waters
roger waters is probably the most emotional singer ever, based on technic and vocal range he sucks, but based on emotions he's upthere, plus he's one of the best lyricist in rock
yes but this about who the best SINGER is...you have to exclude other skills, like how good he is as a lyricist..that has nothing to do with his singing...and besides I'm a huge fan of roger waters and david glimour, but he is not one of the best singers of all time.
that has nothing to do with his singing (meaning simply is his singing is good because of good technique, ability to hit notes and what else...plus waters is much much more emotional in the last ten years or so than he was 85% of the earlier carrer WITH the rest of pinkfloyd, looked at it from the beginnings..that was mostly almost speaking rather than singing. still I like him and gilmour, but because of songwriter abilities, creativiy and much other stuff. other stuff like the fact he's not the best singer (in my measurements and probably many others...maybe
No bad singers on this list, but I'm hugely disappointed that not enough people voted for legends like Bruce Dicki nson, Ian Gillan, James LaBrie and Russell Allen. Freddie definitely deserved to be on there (and even more to get the #1), so did #2-4 and Dio, but like most other UG lists like this, it could have been much better.
Id personally have Cedric from The Mars Volta up on the list, but hey, it's all opinion, and like Queen or not, Freddie Mercury is undeniably one of the greatest frontmen/singers ever, his range and passion and charisma were just huge
The top two spots are good but there a few others on here that definitly shouldn't be. While Layne Stanley, Chris Cornell, and Rob halford are good singers they are no where near being in the top ten singers of all time.
I'm not surprised Jeff Buckley only made 20. He's not as well-known as the other singers mentioned and his most popular song is one of his weakest. Listen to "Grace" and "So Real" if you REALLY want to hear the dude sing. I am pleasantly surprised that James Brown made the top 10, though!
Also, why is no one talking about Sting and Paul McCartney?? Those dudes are great!
Drop the crappy grunge guys, put Dio higher, add Bruce Dickinson and King Diamond. Then I'd agree
I personally would like to see Roy Khan and Hansi Kursch as well but I know that won't ever happen
I would have liked to have seen one of the "desert scene" singers on here, mark lanegan definitely, but even what josh homme can do with his voice is pretty amazing.
alex gaskarth? really? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love pop punk, yellowcard is one of my favorite bands, but those guys aren't truly *great* singers. they have a style that fits their genre, but it's nothing special.
*Top 10 Greatest Rock Singers of All Time
...should be the title. And I'm a little surprised that there aren't any women in the list, but that's to be expected with a primarily male audience, here. I'm extremely glad to see certain names withheld from this list (Serj, Cobain) since we're talking about overall singing ability.
I'd really like to see what UG could come up with if it had a wider variety of musical fans.
uh, yeah, no... not kurt. i mean, love his voice, but he was a performance vocalist.... he didn't have the technique that these guys had. This isn't a best frontman list, its a best vocalist list.
David Lee Roth isn't a very good singer. He can sing in a very limited range, and his high screeching thing is a gimmick. Even though I like the music VH put out during his era, it's hard to argue that he was good, much less great.
I honestly find no faults with this list. Guys, lets not forget, Kurts voice would crack and screech when he sang high. This is based on skill, not influence or your favorite musician
All those guys are deserving and great vocalists in their own right, especially Freddie at number one. Some really alternative choices in there, so this list seems quite refreshing.
He's not that well known, but I think Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire) would deserve a place there. He has an amazing range, great charisma, powerful voice... you name it
yeah ronnie james dio and maynard james keenan would be on my list...robert plant is no surprise but i think they should've included david gilmour he shouldve atleast come extremely close to top 10
I have, I can honestly say in return that you in fact sir have probably not heard patton at his best, which mind you is not contained in a single Faith No More or Mr. Bungle song or even album. To really take a breath of what he is as a singer, you must take a look at a vaairety of his work. I have quite a bit from the muse and can fullheartdly say mike crushes him as a singer, and if I were to be so bold, as a musician. Of course, I can respect your opinion, just stating mind. Good day
Mike patton is an amazing singer, agree with that but if we are talking about vocal range i definitelly choose Bellamy, is just my opinion, like you said i respect yours
No Axl Rose means this list is crap. I get people think he is an a-hole but the fact is when he is on his A game he is one of the most entertaining and passionate front men ever. This list is just not right with the exception of a few.
I like this list but I don't think Eddie Vedder or Maynard sound deserve to be up there. I hear hundreds of people who could imitate anything they do, famous or local. Peter Gabriel and Myles Kennedy would be my other 2. Personally I always thought David Gilmour has ideal vocals.
Aaron Lewis?? If you have ever seen him live, you would put him on the list. Not saying he's on top, but he's about the only person that I have ever heard where his albums don't give his voice any justice. WAY better live. The guy is ridiculous!
Very good list of rock vocalists. But to be a "Greatest SIngers of All Time" with no genre attached, it very much misses the mark. Sam Cooke and Ray Charles would top my list without much competition.
UG, next weeks poll should be who the greatest songwriter is.
Also I'm shocked that there weren't too many mentions of John frusciante on Wednesday. He's has an amazing voice in my opinion, singing higher on songs like Interior Tow & Time Tonight, & lower on songs like One More of Me & Away and Anywhere.
I think Paul McCartney deserves some recognition here, how can you deny his vocal chops especially on songs like Oh Darling? But overall I'm pretty okay with this list give or take a few, Mercury definitely deserves the top spot.
Shame David Bowie never gets any love. I mean how many other singers can you imagine duetting with Freddie without being completely overwhelmed? Dude's an extraordinary vocalist by all standards.
Hopefully when some years pass by, some singers of modern day will get some recognition. For example, Anthony Green has an incredible range, equivalent to a modern day Jon Anderson/Robert Plant/Chris Cornell, but will probably always be ignored by a site like Ultimate-Guitar.
The only artists im upset with not seeing is Jeff Buckley, due to his amazing range, Nick Cave, because of how deep and emotional his voice is, Thom Yorke, because of how he uses his voice, and Brandon Flowers from the Killers. I know I might get hate for the last one, but he has a enormous underrated range. But it's all subjective and I don't mind seeing Layne, Chris, Freddie, Maynard etc. on the list
Or, because he is the front man of a very over rated band. He can't sing for shit. Some call his voice unique but I call it comparable to someone gargling man juice
No Paul McCartney? As a singer, his range is incredible. Even without falsetto, he can get up there. His ability to control his voice between smooth and rough is insane. I'm not saying this just because he was in The Beatles, but because he's an incredible singer.
It would be nice if people on this website, including the mods and writers, would get their heads out of their asses and realize that there is a lot more music beyond the genres of rock. Its a shame that everyone blindly picks their favorite bands singer and ignores all the talent that is out there. Where is Bobby Mcferrin? How about Michael Jackson? Where is Stevie Wonder? I know that this is a site targeted at mindless rock fans, but that's no reason for the writers and editors of this site to let them live in ignorance.
what about axl?! what about m shadows?! what about bon scott and brian johnson? what about matt bellamy??!
and for crying out loud, why on earth would james brown be on this list... if we gotta choose best singers of every genre of all time lets put sinatra and pavarotti with 'em -.- but this seems to be a pretty rock/metal list, so what's with the james brown thing?
only glad to see dio, halford and mercury on this list
so great to see support for Ville Valo in the commets section. truly an astounding talent, completely unique. I don't know if I'd choose "Killing Loneliness" as the best display of his talent (although a great song). i would maybe pick "song or suicide" or "bleed well", but his voice has gotten exponentially better with every album!
Thank you, I'm glad someone said Hoon so I didn't have to again. I love showing people Blind Melon cous they don't know what they're missing.
And Buckley could blow most any male singer away...EVER. You haven't heard what a male voice could do until you've listened to him. Seriously, from falsetto to screaming he's got it all.
Glad to see Chris Cornell on there - as well as being one of the most distinctive voices around, the power and range in his vocals in the 80s-90s was nothing short of insane . He's still pretty good today too, manages quite well on the new Soundgarden album.
Good to see Eddie Vedder and Layne Staley on there too, for similar reasons.
And although i'm not really into Judas Priest, Rob Halford has ridiculous range too.
I am seriously dissapointed that Thom Yorke didnt make the list - I mean cmon, "How to disappear completely", "Fake plastic trees", "Paranoid android", "Reckoner", "Nude", "High and dry", "All I need", and especially "Let down" - try listen to those, and tell me he didnt deserve a spot within the top three!
Maynard James Keenan? Tool makes awesome music, but I don't think MJK's vocals are that good compared to the other people in the list. And it hasn't gotten better with his age.
Further:
- Matt Bellamy: Great voice, nice vocal range, the Freddy Mercury of our time
- Zach Condon (Beirut): beautiful voice
- Asaf Avidan: this guy's voice is wcked, check it out
If its not limited to rock....Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland.
Others that spring to mind...Ian Gillan, David Bowie (under rated as a singer), Elvis, Matt Belamy, Nick Cave, Thom Yorke, Roy orbison, Brett Anderson, Rod Stewart, Roger Daltry and I know a lot of people don't like him.....Bono (listen to sometimes you can't make it on your own)
These lists always include a bunch of good choices, even though they are usually not in the proper order (in my opinion), and there are always one or two entries that just don't make sense, and one or two that really should have been included instead.
In this case, I would have put David Bowie and/or Bruce Dickenson in there instead of Chris Cornell.
I"m not much of a Linkin Park fan, but I am sure Bennington should have been on the list somewhere. I agree with having Cornell and Vedder on the list though. And Cobain really couldn't sing very well. But that wasn't really the purpose of grunge. it was all about raw emotion, no one cared about talent.
I think Axl Rose should've been in there..... and what about Jon Bon Jovi?!?!??! He had such a powerful voice... and David Lee Roth, that guy can really sing.
What people forget is that this list is supposed to be the Top 10 Best Singers OF ALL TIME. That does not neccessarely mean your FAVORITE singer. It did not say ROCK singers either.
In my opinion:
Elvis Presley (Not a big fan but I'll admit that he's probably the greatest singer of all time)
Freddie Mercury (Already in the list)
Frank Sinatra (Not a rock singer but this list doesn't say anything about rock singers only either)
Ronnie James Dio (Already in the list)
I'm very surprised there's not been one mention of Rody Walker! He's not my favorite, but I would easily have him within the top 10. Otherwise an extremely wonderful list.
Okay. Is this a list of the best 'successful' singers? Or just singers in general? I have no idea why Vedder is up there. Scott Stapp should be in his place.. And kool aid drinking Creed haters, go listen to 'Are You Ready', 'Sister', 'Wash Away Those Years' and tell me he doesn't slay it. Furthermore, I can't seem to fathom why Brent Smith isn't in the top 5 at the very least. The fact that he doesn't sing with his throat or sing falsetto all the time like 90% of singers out there, and just belts it every time is pretty admirable to me. Alright, I'm ready for the beating now. lol
I'm sure this will be flamed, but what about Bono? I think his voice is very good even though I don't very much like most of U2's music, I do think he has a great voice for their sound.
That doesn't make any sense at all. Why should Tim get nominated because Jeff sometimes finds his way into these silly lists? Because they are father and son? Pointless. Besides the blood relation they are completely unrelated musically and contextually. One just happened to have a song of his catapulted by the likes of American Idol and X-Factor - hence being more well known. Both men were excellent singers, but it's not exactly a mystery why the more unknown one is underrepresented.
I just knew that Freddie would be #1 and he deserves it. If I had to add somebody it would be Micheal Kiske. He had an amazing range back in his Helloween days.
Burton Cummings of The Guess Who and then later a stellar Solo career and also Paul Rodgers( Bad Company) have tremendous voices, not to mention Aussie John Farnham. Please!
I want more POWER METAL. I mean shit, if these grunge singers with almost no range get on here, but not BRUCE DICKINSON then I discard the whole list. DIO deserves top 3 atleast, freddie, plant, dio, dickinson, halford, Hansi Kursch, Roy Khan, Michael Kiske, Klaus Meine, Kai Hansen.. AND MY FAVORITE Jari Mäenpää!!!!!
Go make a nasty comment in the articles. I dare you.
I was going to post a generic insult here because I'm immature but I see TunerAddict has already praised you in response to this post. Now I'll fellate you too. You are the greatest CC of all time.
Not a bad list. but if you're going to have eddie vedder, keenan and staley then you have to have geoff tate dickinson and steven tyler. It might be too early but I think Myles Kennedy is easily the best active vocalist around
This list is pretty good but I'm surprised that Corey Taylor is not on that list. In my opinion, he's one of the best singers ever. His voice is so powerful, he can scream as hell and also sing with heart on powerful ballads. He is the modern voice of hard-rock/metal
2. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
1. Freddie Mercury (Queen)
> 56 dislikes
Alas people have sense!
To be honest I think they're both superb singers but their originality is below sea level, and just because they happen to be the most famous classic rock singers it by no means they deserve to be fixed ahead of soe of the excellent alt rock singers of today.
Axl Rose. He's a dick but his vocals are very signature, the lyrics he sang are amazing, his stage presence was incredible, his appearance is signature, his dance moves are sexy, and lets face it; he probably was in the top list of men who girls wanted to sleep with.
Whether you like him or not, he is undeniably an iconic frontman that showed the world true attitude and honesty on stage.
Always vexing to see Robert Plant on these lists - not because he doesn't deserve it; he is superb! But when you see him having a quiet pint down the pub.. my brain just isn't able to comprehend.
I would have expected to see Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald on this list. But I suppose guitarists lean towards singers with which they are familiar, and singers who sing songs they like to play. Maybe this is like a list of the top guitarists on a blog covering what entertainers wear.
