In addition to going platinum with the album "A Beautiful Lie," winning multiple awards and headlining sold-out tours, 30 Seconds To Mars recently became the first American rock act to film a video in China, for the track "From Yesterday."
Frontman Jared Leto tells AOL Music he's felt the pull of the Far East for a long time. "I've always had a very strong interest in Asian culture," he says. "It always struck a deep chord in me, and some of my favorite films are Kurosawa's 'Kagemusha' and 'Ran,' and Bertolucci's 'The Last Emperor.' And I thought that the passion of the people, the history and the culture would be a really strong foundation for the song."
Though the video, which he calls "a foreign film," has been well received, Leto says the experience of filming in China is more than its own reward. "The country is exploding in a lot of different ways, and it was certainly unforgettable to go over there and have this experience," he says. "And certainly we went over there and came back slightly changed as a result. It was exciting, educational, eye-opening in many different ways, and we definitely benefited from enormously from the cultural exchange that happened."
Thanks for the info to AOL Music.

: that's awesome, if i ever had the chance, i'd probably do it too. 30 Seconds to Mars is okay, but that's cool that they got to film in ChinaPOSTED: 12/15/2006 - 10:18 am / quote |

: Random, honest question:
Why do people just...out of the blue, mid comment, say stuff like "This band is okay, but...", or "I don't like this band, but..."
If you're making an unrelated point - such as discussing the wish to film in China, yourself - , why bother commenting on how much you like the band? It's rather trivial.
Anyway. Methinks Jared is a bit full of himself. It's understandable, but...I think he likes to hear himself talk. Certainly was a fantastic video, though.POSTED: 12/15/2006 - 01:02 pm / quote |

: Well, that's fine. But, the "I [don't] like this band, but..." is wholly unnecessary.POSTED: 12/16/2006 - 01:29 pm / quote |

: u know, this video is really strange and so is their other one for The Kill. I know the Kill video is like a tribute to the Shining, but this one is totally just way out there. Wut's with these guys and shoving little tiny bits of their 3 minute songs into these elaborate, ridiculously incomprehensible, 15 minute long videos that have nothing to do with the song and cost thousands of dollars? I mean (and not to do wut that second guy said) I like this band a lot but their vids are just wierd. But I do love the band.POSTED: 12/17/2006 - 12:32 am / quote |
