The famous Barbican Gallery in the heart of London, England, will be playing host to Panic Attack: Art In The Punk Years, an exhibit designed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the summer of 1977, when "punk became an international phenomenon."
It was notably the year the Sex Pistols released the "Anarchy In The UK" single, reports Punknews.org.
Running from June 1st to August 31st, the show will feature memorabilia from The Clash and Sex Pistols including the band's distinctive clothing and graphic design.
The gallery adds: "This exhibition examines the influence on punk on the visual arts on both sides of the Atlantic. The punk phenomenon is most closely associated with music, fashion and graphics, but this exhibition argues that the punk label can also be applied to the art of this time."

: Shut up Free_Bird, if you haven't got anything constructive to say then don't say it.

I fail to see the point of this gallery. Why go to a museum to look at punk cloths, culture and graphics when you can just go see them at a show?POSTED: 09/22/2006 - 04:19 pm / quote |

: ironically...punk was supposed to not really be fashionable. oh well, i still find it funny that the sex pistols were used.POSTED: 09/22/2006 - 04:24 pm / quote |

Because punk nowadays is not punk. Punk is not a genre, it was (note that I said "was") a movement of bands that were against the bloated 70s rock scene. Sure, bands still play in that style, but they will never have that same conviction of the bands that were originally part of the whole scene.POSTED: 09/22/2006 - 08:56 pm / quote |

: they talk about punk and don't mention the "ramones." how typical, giving all the credit to the clash and the pistols. joe strummer even stated on "ramones end of the century" that the UK scene wouldn't have kicked off if it werent for the ramones. its about time they got some credit.

: man it should be in new york, not london. punk was started in new york by the velvet underground and the stooges, not the stupid sex pistols. the clash are pretty cool though.POSTED: 09/24/2006 - 10:39 am / quote |

Actually, you've got it the other way around, Black Sabbath was before any of the punk movement had happened. You gotta get your facts straight..POSTED: 09/24/2006 - 02:49 pm / quote |

: Pay no mind to us we're just a minor threat! I would love to see this gallery. Punk was such an amazing and influential part of music. It's a shame not very many people know what punk really is like Black Flag, Minor Threat, and The Misfits (not the new misfits though it has to be the misfits with Danzig on vocals).POSTED: 09/24/2006 - 03:52 pm / quote |

I agree with Eddy Hitler. Black Sabbath was not ****in metal at all but bands like The Exploited and Discharge influenced bands like Slayer and Metallica.POSTED: 09/24/2006 - 08:46 pm / quote |

sabbath was metal and punk did influence metal bands like metallica (80s) (they loved the misfits) RHCP were not punk. maybe some influence but no they arent.POSTED: 10/14/2006 - 02:26 pm / quote |
TSF_Dalton
: well, the old RHCP were kinda Punk/Funk...now there just freakin sellouts. But when you look back at all the bands, and argue who started it and which band was the best, its music...a revolution...its just not cool to disgrace the name of punk with this argument. Anyway, if it weren't for reggae, there would be no punk, and no 1st wave ska! POSTED: 09/17/2007 - 12:18 am / quote |
