77 Face Drug, Alcohol Charges At Raleigh Phish Concert

Seventy-seven people were arrested on Saturday during the Phish concert in Raleigh, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement officers said.

Officers said 32 of the arrests were on felony charges including trafficking the psychedelic drug LSD. Other drugs, including Ecstasy, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana and nitrous oxide, were also seized, officers said.

ALE Special Agent Jeff Lasater said:

"After receiving complaints of dangerous illegal drug activity, ALE and the Raleigh Police Department worked together to make this event safer for visitors and residents of Raleigh".

In addition to the drug charges, 89 misdemeanor drug and alcohol citations were also filed against concertgoers.

Totally agreed. All our local cops are never protecting people from all the violent criminals downtown in, they're crawling out of the sewers everywhere hastling teenagers over dime bags in the suburbs. Bottom line, busting murderers and car thieves costs the city money to prosecute, as opposed to the cash haul they rake in from minor offenders at Phish concerts. Very sad.

sorry i don't usually like to double post but i must say this : what's with some of these comments bashing people against drugs? i personally don't care one way or another if someone does drugs at a concert (or anywhere for that matter)but what's wrong with people who say they aren't cool with it? i'm not straight edge but i also don't do drugs, mainly because they age you horribly, does that make me wrong or naive? if you do drugs then fine that's your bussiness, but why bash people who aren't into that? chances are they have a healthier body and a better chance at seeing 50 then you do

yes, yes it does. i look very young for my age, and you'll never see someone take as much drugs and alcohol as me (jk, but no really its absurd) and i have been doing it for years and i binge. People actually say im the perfect aliby, because i dont look like someone who takes drugs.

I can understand the arrest, but in all seriousness, this happens at tons of concerts, not just Phish. If you are going to bust Phish, gotta bust those Ravers and those damn Ska and Reggae shows, etc etc. Either way, while I do feel the individuals were responsible for needing to get high to listen to Phish (not like I blame them, not a fan). You should be able to listen to the music without any sort of "enhancers" or else you really don't enjoy the music.

LSD does seem to impare your ability to read because my post clearly states that i'm not straight edge. i'm not part of a sub culture (that's what straight edge is) i simply don't do it because i have actually seen people my age who do drugs and look terrible to be 16. though it may not have the same effect on everyone, i choose not to do drugs simply for that reason : i'm young so i would like LOOK young. if someone else does drugs then that's fine, i don't care. i just have a problem with people who bash others for not sharing the same beleif as them (hence my comment towards nargoth) i hope that clears things up now excuse me while i go watch scrubs

Why are people arguing about drugs? If people wanna do em at a concert they should be allowed to. I think it's horrible that this happened and I hope this never happens at a concert I'm at. I saw Tool last summer and bought some acid from a dude at the show and it was awesome, I'd have been more pissed than I could possibly imagine if I was arrested for it. I understand that drugs arent for everyone and if they arent for you, DONT DO EM! But for us people that know how to use responsibly, this is a huge blow to us.

Clearly on a music site, people are more willing to defend the use of drugs, since many of them use drugs themselves. Anything a person does, they will not consider immoral, since they do it. No one wants to view themselves as the bad guy.

Is doing drugs wrong? It's often times unhealthy and a lot of people use them to escape reality since they can't handle their lives. I'm against the war on drugs, but I can't stand people who justify using drugs. It's unhealthy and is a waste of your time. Do you really have so much time to waste to do drugs?

Cyanide is taken specifically to kill you, Alcohol and LSD are to intoxicate you, you can't use Cyanide as a counterpoint to his point, people don't ****ing drink/consume Cyanide in that large amount. Granted it's in ciggarettes, but it's such a minute amount that the body flushes it out before it has time to do anything. otherwise you could just say all kinds of shit "Drinking a cup of corrosive acid is bad for you lolololol! Well no it isn't immoral, it doesn't harm anyone and it doesn't have anything to do with your moral persuasion, you can be a good man and do drugs and it wont have any effect on whether you're still good natured, the same as if you're a **** and do drugs, you are equally a **** on drugs.

And on the wasting time front? Surely something that you enjoy isn't a waste of time, because you're enjoying yourself, and if it doesn't effect your life then you're quite within your rights to do them.

I've got nothing against people who don't do drugs, and I completely understand if you just don't enjoy them and it isn't your bag, not everyone enjoys it, I smoke a bit of pot because I enjoy the sensation, I still do stuff while I'm smoking, it just puts me in a nice relaxed mood, the same as occasionally taking Acid with a few mates and listening to pink floyd or hawkwind, I get a nice trip out of it. Other people might go paintballing with their mates and both groups would enjoy it, while both activities are not productive in the slightest they are fun, because people like to have fun in their leisure time, otherwise what's the point in leisure time if you don't use it to enjoy yourself after you've done the important things in life?

Lets be serious here, I highly doubt anyone that was doing hallucinogenic was planning on driving home after the show, they're the sort of stuff that you accept to be incapacitated on after taking.

While I don't really want to get into an argument on the legalization of drugs, it's not like they were harming anyone, they just wanted to have a bit of a trip, its only bad because the government says so, it's not fundamentally bad like attacking someone.

Evidently you're ignorant to Manson's life. Look up the things he went through since birth and then you'll understand why he became a sociopath/pyschopath. Also look up medical testing on LSD, it's on relatively the same safety level as marijuana and mushrooms. Which are all far safer than drugs such as cocaine, alcohol and meth.

The amount of undercovers really did scare me at the Raleigh show, but I had a good show in the end. Some of my other friends were not so lucky. Drugs are a choice and that's why when things happen to family you can understand that they knew the risk they took to do what they were doing. Should be safe in all manners, do what you need to do to exist but by all means be safe.
