Memphis-based hard rock band Skillet are celebrating their first-ever #1 Active Rock song with "Awake And Alive", which went from #4 to #1 this week, reports Billboard.com. In the Active Rock chart's 14-year history, this is the first of the chart's 143 #1 songs to feature female vocals, as drummer Jen Ledger sings with the group's frontman John Cooper on the track.
Skillet recently released a remix EP, "
Awake And Remixed", which features alternative versions of songs featured on the band's RIAA gold-certified album, "
Awake". The album, Cooper says, is about trying to keep the faith in a challenging world.
"Every time I turn on the TV, it's like, 'Really? Another sex scandal?'" Cooper told Audio Ink Radio. "This is absurd, from wars to violence going on all the time. It's a scary time to be alive, and it's an easy time to lose your faith."
Skillet is currently on the Avalanche Tour 2011, alongside Stone Sour, Theory Of A Deadman, Art Of Dying and Halestorm, which tours various U.S. cities through April and into early May.
