Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer has lived a life full of ups and downs and in his new book, "Hit Hard: A Story Of Hitting Rock Bottom At The Top," he goes into excruciating detail about everything from substance abuse, his relationship with his father, and conflicts within his very own band.
Kramer tells Billboard.com that his book was written with writers William Patrick and Keith Garde to not only entertain, but to truly help people who may be dealing with the same problems he had to deal with. "My desire to help people plays a strong part in my character," he says. "Because I've been allowed to do what I've done via Aerosmith, I'd like to be able to carry it on as I get older, on another level. Whatever that may be is really unbeknownst to me - maybe some sort of a lecture series or circuit or whatever - but I know that it will come."
He goes on to describe how
Aerosmith singer
Steven Tyler felt about how brutally honest
Kramer gets in the book. He says, "
When I was trying to tell him about some of the stuff that was in the book, his comment was...'Hey, man, as long as it's the truth, I don't care.' And that's pretty much where Steven is at. He's about the truth."
Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton also had some words regarding Kramer’s autobiography. He describes the book as "pretty amazing. It's a really hard hitting book...but there's also a lot of neat references to people that we knew when the band started and things that happen that I forgot about. So it has some real entertainment value, too."
When asked if he would also be writing a book now that Kramer has one and Steven Tyler will be publishing one in 2010, Hamilton replied, "Right now my passion is expressing myself through music. I think the thing to do is to be the last one to write a book. That way you can let everybody else put things in their book that are gonna make you mad, and then you can answer back and [have] the last word."
Aerosmith will continue touring with ZZ Top until this September and plan to continue working on their new album, which is being produced by Brendan O'Brien, after.
