Arcade Fire Criticize Canadian Prime Minister

Global warming has Grammy winners Arcade Fire dissing Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper as he campaigns for re-election.

"Our current leader has championed some pretty destructive initiatives on everyone's behalf ... it's really important to get out and vote on May 2", the indie rockers told their Canadian fans on their online blog.

While not promoting rival candidates, Arcade Fire points fans to a CBC news story where Harper dismisses the Kyoto Accord on climate change as a "socialist scheme" calculated to siphon money away from rich nations.

The entry concludes: "Canada is still a pretty good country, and worth fighting for..."

Arcade Fire gave the 2011 Grammys a major shock when the Canuck band beat out rival pop stars Eminem, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry for the best album trophy for "The Suburbs".

If i was 18, id vote for the green party, or possible the conseratives.
We just got the NDP for nova scotia 2 years ago. before that we were conserative. conseratives lowered our already high taxes of .14% to .13%
Ndp raised it to 2 cents after promising there will be no tax raise.

However there was a green party member just arrested for possession of pot. well see if their popularity goes up or down.

Yeah, our NDP government isn't working out as well as it could. Although I'm sure Jack Layton behind the reins in Ottawa might do some more interesting things that Darrel Dexter here. But, as a Nova Scotian student I almost have to vote Liberal since Ignatieff is the first person in a while to really give a shit about students. The NDP commissioned the O'Neill Report which wanted to hike up our already outrageous tuition fees. Ignatieff wants to give students more money. Pretty tempting deal. If we can show politicians that the so-called "apathetic" student vote can make a difference, then all the better for us.
And Arcade Fire are totally right to knock the Harper Government, although I personally don't feel that environmental issues are the most pressing right now. That's just me though.

Maybe not, but one of few. I agree with you about "Iggy." Layton is the only one I'd really trust as a leader; if he'd cross over to Liberal party, he'd easily be next PM. I appreciate Arcade Fire for trying to get young Canadians involved and voting. Whining about the government is one thing, trying to get people to actively make a change is another.

Well in my area it seems the Conservatives are gonna win, nearly every house has a conservative sign, and I've only seen two Liberal signs in the whole county, and 1 NDP sign

lol, by no means am i a conservative, but if one party is a total joke it's the green party. that's fine and dandy if they want to improve the environment but you can't lead a country primarily on environmental issues. it's important to vote but when all the parties are as shitty as they are it's hard to just not.
