Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner: 'I've Forgotten How To Write A Hit Single'

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner says he's "forgotten" how to write a hit single.

The Sheffield bred star says that despite having five Top Five singles between the years 2005 and 2007 with his band, he no longer knows how to make a smash hit. The singer said:

"I have f--king forgotten how to do that... I don't know what that is any more, it's a different landscape these days."

In the interview with The Sun, he also downplayed his singing, saying:

"I was never a singer. I have had to practice at that and writing melodies is something that didn't come naturally. I was more comfortable writing lyrics."

He added: "I am still working on it but I think we are getting there with the singing thing."

I'm sure he'll remember. First two albums are brilliant, the 3rd was different and took a bit longer to grow on me, but I have bought each album they have done and am actually listening to them right now so they're doing something right. I respect the fact they're not just repeating themselves and do take risks on each albums.

Well, they didn't have any hits in America. They played SNL once, and that's only because NBC puts whoever Rolling Stone is excited about on their shows.

A lot of the bands that are huge in Europe are nothing here in America; bands like Stone Roses, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys. Oasis had two hits, more like one, and the other two did nothing in the mainstream circuit.

I like how you assume I like those things, I hate screaming, Blast beats are just a way to make shitty drummers think they're talented and anything can be good without a guitar solo, I, notice how I say I, meaning IMO, I'm not forcing this on anyone else, I just think their music is boring, is it so wrong to have an opinion? Well if so I guess I'm wrong and it's okay for you to judge my taste in music.

most of the first album was like spoken word for alex as far as singing goes. That's why he says he was never a singer. Its amazing to see his vocals get progressively better with each album they make
