Arctic Monkeys Bassist Left The Band

The Arctic Monkeys, who were voted the best British rock band earlier this year, said bass player Andy Nicholson has left the group after pulling out of a North American tour last month.

"We are sad to tell everyone that Andy is no longer with the band," the three other bandmates said on their web site.

"We have been mates with Andy for a long time and have been through some amazing things together that no one can take away. We all wish Andy the very best."

The band said that Nick O'Malley, who stood in when Nicholson was absent from the recent North America tour, would carry on playing bass for their remaining shows this summer.

The bass player's initial departure last month tour was blamed on "fatigue following an intensive period of touring".

No further details were given for why he had quit the indie rock bank.

To be honest I haven't listen to much of their stuff, i didn't like "look good of the dancefloor" but i thought 'When the sun goes down' was absolutely amazing. Can anyone suggest any other good AM songs?

No big deal,he'll come back.....or the band will find someone to replace him(and that would SUCK A LOT cause their bassist is great).They're still young and their music is way too "psycho-wacho-let's snuff our heads",so I guess it's normal that the man feels tired.Just like The Fall Of Troy,they need some experience,so they get used to the life of a real musician.

i saw these guys in concert a couple days ago with the new bassist. he just kinda stood there expressionless but he played alright. they'll make it without him

Just listen to their album man, "I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor" was my least favourite song.

Well, they had some really good basslines, especially the one on "A Certian Romance". It sucks that Andy left, but I really like this band and I hope they keep making hot tunes.

yer that is pretty funny lol.
i read an interview with these guys somewhere and got the impression that this guy might drop out, he was talking about about how he just didn't fit in to the whole scene...i've never really been into these guys but i do like them because they represent the pretty hilarious 'chav' culture in Britain, and produce some raw quirky stuff, so best of luck to them.

This is really bad news, the bass player was quite a key person in the creation of their sound, and the basslines were good on the records! And shut up with this nonsense that the Arctic Monkeys were created by record companies! It pisses me off to no extent that some ppl cant just hack that some Bands become huge and popular because theyre actually good!!!!
The Arctic Monkeys are a great band, and I would much rather listen to them on mainstream radio or tele than all the other pop-acts we get shuved in our faces!
