Avenged Sevenfold Not Religious Band

Avenged Sevenfold include a number of religious references in its music, even taking its name from a passage in the Bible. But frontman M. Shadows told Launch Radio Networks that the band doesn't have any messages about God, or the Devil for that matter. "Anyone that read the lyrics and really knew anything about us, they would know we're not promoting either," he said. "That's one thing about this band that I love is that we never really shove any kind of, like, political or religious beliefs on people. We just, the music's there to entertain and maybe thought-provoking on both sides, but we don't try to, like, really shove anything down anyone's throat. There's too many bands that do that nowadays, I think."

The band's name comes from a passage in the Genesis story of Cain and Abel, which reads, "But the Lord said to him, 'Therefore whoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.'"

All five members of the California-based group claim to have been kicked out of Catholic school.

The next single from Avenged Sevenfold's 2005 album, "City Of Evil", is the opening track, "Beast And The Harlot". The album has sold 334,000 copies in the U.S. since its release last June, according to Blabbermouth.net.

Avenged Sevenfold will be embarking on the second leg of their "Cities Of Evil" headlining tour beginng in late January. Support at all dates will come from CKY. The details are as follows:

I don't really have an opinion on Avenged Sevenfold. They're ok I guess. I havn't listened to much. Personally I thought Bat Country was an all right song. I liked some of the lyrics. But that's aside my point. ... Why are people suddenly basing what music you should be listening to according to your age? It's so ridiculous. "If your over 'x' you should be listening to 'blahblahblah' ... only people under 'x' listen to 'whatserface'" ..... It's just stupid. Who cares how old you are? It's not about age and stuff like that. It's about personal preference and what music people like. So what if it the band isn't that musically talented? hey, i have listened to these guys for years now and their new album sounds alot like their old stuff, except for the vocals. for some reason, he doesn't scream anymore, which kinda sucks.
i just wish that people would stop badmouthing bands that actually play their instruments and write their own songs.
it sickens me that on a music/guitar based website that people can have the nerve to call a band that does both of those things called a shitty band. its not fair. they took the time to learn an instrument and write a damn song, but in your eyes they suck.

I don't care what peoples opinions are, but Avenged Sevenfold have two of the best guitaris in rock in their band, and there albums shows a variety of styles. I think they have some pop sensibility, which is smart because it helps make you more accessable to the masses.

With their new album, Avenged Sevenfold basically went into pop culture \ mainstream. If you compare their songs from the last album to the new one you can easily tell how much better they were.

And finally, in the interview he says that he doesn't like it when people shove political and relious stuff in their music...I don't understand why he is saying that since a majority of their songs are relious based. Even if they aren't out right promoting it, they are still like expressing it. Also, in the song M.I.A. on the new cd theres a line that says "I'll walk your land but don't be long, two million soldiers cant be wrong."

I think if you look at the average age of the posters here, it should tell the story. Avenged Sevenfold is by far not the best metal band in the world, but it is refreshing to see them bring music back into the mainstream that is a bit heavier and more thoughtful then the songs we keep hearing about "some guy and his girlfriend". Oh yeah...if you don't think they are talented, I highly recommend you go to one of their live shows. Now that may be a bit out of some people's comfort zones here, but once you see them live you will realize that they are pretty talented guys. And this is only their first album under a major label, so give them 5-10 years and I have a feeling we'll be seeing some amazing things coming out of this one act.

P.S. - to dude who said WB Records made them stiffle their religion, this is highly untrue. The band have been denying the connection even before "Waking the Fallen". Though I do think it would be easy for someone not to know they are religious if they did not know the band, I think it must have been a pretty slow news day to post this information...this is useless news.

i believe A7x is a great band... def. not the best ever, but one of the best of today... they have beautiful sounding guitars and even though they are more mainstream now, its nice to have some heavier, better sounding music rather than the same old three days grace, and nickleback... theyre old stuff was good, but i personally like their new stuff better. great band.love them.

Whether any1 will admit it, avenged sevenfold is way good in my book and not because they have good guitars or w/e, it's because they are out in the industry doing what they love. I couldn't have said it better. Avenged sevenfold is out there doing what they love. Playing music for a living. In my opinion, I think just about any band out there that plays an instrument or sings and actually writes their own music is a good band. I may not enjoy their music, but their still a good group. I agree that they improved, but only in the guitar field. They have worked a lot more harmonizizing into this album and the overall melody section is a lot better, but besides that the vocals aren't that good and they sound a lot different than their SECOND album, Waking the Fallen (first was Sounding the Seventh Trumpet to whoever bashed me lol)

I've actually seen M.A.B., The only thing that really impresses me about M.A.B. is his like...flippy thing (where he alternates going from like underhand playing to overhand playing) I've seen others do it (C.O.B.) but M.A.B. is insane at it.
