Selling out might be a career choice once you’re writing your second album for a major label, but when you do it before your career really begins, it comes across as impressively entrepreneurial.
That’s what an enterprising young band from Seattle did when they became "The BuyStock.net Band" - for $251,000.
The young group auctioned their naming rights, and it was picked up by a new website
BuyStock.net, which promises to "
enable anyone to buy stock like the best".
"Initially we didn’t take the idea seriously but later realized it was brilliant," explained frontman Ben Adley. "Sports stadiums do it, why not a band?"
They want to use the money to fund their debut album, which will be released for free. Well, they can afford it. Their first single is available on their sponsor’s website.
"We’re a new band that needs cash to record our first album. It’s as simple as that," Adley continued. "We’ve written a lot of songs and we want to record them in a quality studio and to do that takes cash."
The BuyStock CEO Tim Jakobs added, "I think it’s a fantastic idea and a clever way for the band to fund their passion. We’re thrilled to be a part of it. I look forward to a long relationship."
Could it be worse? What would be the worst website a band could be named after?
Thanks to Gibson for the report.
