Beastie Boys Nominated For Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame

Beastie Boys are among the nominees for the 2008 Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.

They, along with Madonna, John Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen, Afrika Bambaataa, Chic, the Ventures, Donna Summer and the Dave Clark Five on the ballot.

Five of those will be inducted on March 10, 2008, at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Formed in 1979 as a hardcore/punk act which shared the stage with the likes of the Bad Brains, thee Dead Kennedys and Reagan Youth.

The Beastie Boys went on to reinvent themselves as a rock-tinged hip hop act with Licensed to Ill in 1986 and released a number of classic, genre-bending records including Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication, Hello Nasty, To the 5 Boroughs and most recently, The Mix-Up.

Very glad to see the Beasties get a nomination, but this is a very poorly written article. One of the paragraphs isn't even a complete sentence.

The definition of rock and roll has changed over the years. Get over it. EVERYONE listed there is rock and roll. And even if they aren't the R&R Hall of Fame is for music and all things related to it. Bands aren't the only people in there, journalists are, too.

I really hope Beastie Boys get in. They definitely deserve it.

But I always felt that, while they obviously deserve it (don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE fan. Fave Band Ever!), I feel it would kinda kill a bit of the "Rush Feeling". Their preference was to stay out of the mainstream, and they never tried to be the most popular band in the world. I think that, if they were added, they would get attention that would make the special feeling lose a little edge.

I'm sorry fella, but the key words in rock and roll hall of fame are ROCK AND ROLL. Rock music should ALWAYS take precedence over other genres at this thing. Rap is not rock and roll. Disco is not rock and roll. They aren't honoring "pioneering artists" they are trying to sell tickets to a damn dinner. Here, read this:

The rock and roll hall of fame is the biggest joke the music industry has ever had. I think that they should at least induct maybe the rock acts in before the rap and stuff. It's actually being consistent.

First off, congrats to the beasties cuz if they get in they deserve it. Fuck everyone whos hating on the beasties and everyone whos bitchin about their favorite band not being in the rock n roll hall of fame. They cant just induct about 50 bands in one year, so alot of the bands that should be in will probably get in anyway some other time. And as much as i dont like most of the other bands or artists nominated this year (mostly madonna and donna summer), most people dont realize that most of those artist's genres stem from rock and roll and are therefore qualified as much as most people dont like it. Rap, for example, is starting to become in the rock n roll hall of fame because it stems from funk and soul music, which all started with rock n roll.

Maybe it' time that the rock and roll hall fame change their name. since they put different musical genre's in there too. why not just call it the music hall of fame. that way no one would be left out and no one will get mad or confused. the beastie boys deserves to be in there. they used to be a punk rock band back in their early days. and never have i been a madonna fan but i think she also deserves it. she's been an influential female artist and became one of the best selling artists in the world.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Nahville have a country music hall of fame Although I am a fan of both country and R&R it would dissapoint me to see George Jones in the R&R H.o.F. as much as it would to see Metallica in country music hall of fame And I don't think either one would happen so WTF is Madonna's name doing on the list She does deserve recognition for her acomplishments I think... But not in the catagorie of Rock & Roll
