Beastie Boys Nominated For Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame

Beastie Boys are among the nominees for the 2008 Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.

They, along with Madonna, John Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen, Afrika Bambaataa, Chic, the Ventures, Donna Summer and the Dave Clark Five on the ballot.

Five of those will be inducted on March 10, 2008, at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Formed in 1979 as a hardcore/punk act which shared the stage with the likes of the Bad Brains, thee Dead Kennedys and Reagan Youth.

The Beastie Boys went on to reinvent themselves as a rock-tinged hip hop act with Licensed to Ill in 1986 and released a number of classic, genre-bending records including Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication, Hello Nasty, To the 5 Boroughs and most recently, The Mix-Up.

Very glad to see the Beasties get a nomination, but this is a very poorly written article. One of the paragraphs isn't even a complete sentence.

The definition of rock and roll has changed over the years. Get over it. EVERYONE listed there is rock and roll. And even if they aren't the R&R Hall of Fame is for music and all things related to it. Bands aren't the only people in there, journalists are, too.

I really hope Beastie Boys get in. They definitely deserve it.

But I always felt that, while they obviously deserve it (don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE fan. Fave Band Ever!), I feel it would kinda kill a bit of the "Rush Feeling". Their preference was to stay out of the mainstream, and they never tried to be the most popular band in the world. I think that, if they were added, they would get attention that would make the special feeling lose a little edge.

I'm sorry fella, but the key words in rock and roll hall of fame are ROCK AND ROLL. Rock music should ALWAYS take precedence over other genres at this thing. Rap is not rock and roll. Disco is not rock and roll. They aren't honoring "pioneering artists" they are trying to sell tickets to a damn dinner. Here, read this:

The rock and roll hall of fame is the biggest joke the music industry has ever had. I think that they should at least induct maybe the rock acts in before the rap and stuff. Also, everyone seems to get so angry about their favorite band not getting in, or how do some bands ever beat out others, when they seem to forget that a band cant even be considered until 25 years after their first release of some type of album. yeah, there are lots of bands still looked over, but dont freak out over nothing

You're right about Grandmaster Flash, I forgot about them. But that's still only one group. But you have to remember that the Hall is ran by that damn Rolling Stone editor guy, so the inductees are based on how much some music writer likes them or how iconic they are, not based on the merit of the music.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is all about honoring music from the black tradition, really. After all, some if its first inductees are Aretha Franklin and BB King, neither of whom are rock & roll. So it's not really surprising that newer inductees are rap artist, especially since hip hop as a genre has been around for less than 30 years. This isn't a derivation for the Rock Hall. It's actually being consistent.
