Beatles Fans To Attempt New Guinness World Record In October
The Beatles already own at least a dozen Guinness World Records, including Most Recorded Song ("Yesterday", natch), Most No. 1 Singles on the U.S. Chart (an even 20 between 1964-70), and Biggest All-Time Sales for a Band. And on Oct. 5, fans will gather in Liverpool to try and add one more record to the list. As reported by BeatlesNews.Com, the event - which is part of the city's year-long 50th anniversary Beatles celebration - is being held as an attempt to break the world record for the largest number of people singing in the round. (Didn't know there was such a record? Join the club.) Amazingly, the current record was set just last year, when 897 people came together to sing "Danke Schoen" in honor of the 25th anniversary of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". "The Beatles are record-breaking royalty", said an enthused Guinness representative. "Not only are they the best-selling music group in history, the band holds the honor of being the creators of the first song ever beamed into space. Guinness World Records is pleased to be adjudicating this record attempt and we hope their fans will be joining the event to help secure another place in the records books in the name of the Fab Four". Given that Tuesday (Sep. 4) marked the 50th anniversary of the release of "Love Me Do", it's only fitting that it's the song that's been chosen for the Liverpool event, which is expected to draw "Thousands Of People". Thanks to Ultimateclassicrock for the report.
