If you’re a Black Sabbath fan, it looks like this week could be a good one for you. BlackSabbath.com, the website that has acted as the official mouthpiece for the band for over a decade, is currently featuring the date 11.11.11 on the main page under the classic Master of Reality era Black Sabbath logo.
This, combined with the NME’s claim that the band is scheduled to call a press release on this day at the Whiskey A Go-Go (at 11.11 am no less!) goes to fuel the fires of recent speculation that the classic Sabbath line-up may be set for a reunion.
According to NME, the press conference, which is set to be hosted by former Black Flag front man Henry Rollins, will have all four original Sabs, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward in attendance.
While no announcement has yet been made as to what the press conference will detail, some kind of reunion news seems likely. As Planet Rock notes, the date and venue hold a particular significance for Sabbath. On 11th November 1970, the band played their first ever US show at the Whiskey.
The news goes to somewhat rebuke Tony Iommi’s recent claim that the band had no intention of getting back together. The extent to which the band’s reunion tour will take shape remains to be seen, provided that Friday’s announcement is for that at all (although all of the signs seem to be pointing towards that). Rumours have persisted that the band will be touring with fellow metal legends Motorhead and Judas Priest across the US in spring 2012, before hitting the European festival circuit in the summer. These claims, will no doubt be addressed on Friday.
