Blink 182 Break Up Denied

Guitarist Dave Navarro has retracted his statement regarding Blink-182 breaking up, according to Digital-Noize. In a message posted on his site, 6767.com, he wrote:

"OK. Here's the deal. When Blink pulled out of the show, we were told that they had broken up. It made sense to us because it was an important show for an important cause. You're right. I shouldn't repeat things that aren't confirmed and I apologize to the band and their fans. Honestly, it was a mistake. I am glad to hear that the news is untrue."

Blink 182 is a great band, they have accomplished so much in thier lives and have entertained so many people during thier shows. Blink 182 is a household name and just about everyone in the free world has heard one of their songs. Many have grown up with Blink 182, and are still listining to it now, they are an excellent band, and we have seen them go through many changes. I think this break to enjoy thier family is well deserved, but i hope they come back with new music

I'm not a Blink-182 fan by any means. I'll admit that I was very happy to learn they had disbanded because I knew that punk rock had lost one of it's major influences on today's young audiences. I hoped that since they were gone, the other punk bands would slowly crumble and lose their grip on modern rock, leaving hard rock to reign surpreme. Those dreams are now dead...oh well...it was a good dream.

i was pretty bummed when i heard the news.. i really am not into them anymore but i have to admit my first cd of all time was 'enema of the state.' now i'm a huge incubus/led zeppelin/chili peppers guy and i play jazz. But blink still reeks all over my playing so they obviously accomplished something. I'm all for respecting different types of music.. Music saves the fricken world everyday. Yeah, it's sad news, but every band breaks up someday and new bands come in. I totally agree that there are too many "poser" bands flooding the radio with their "three chord songs" (by the way to the nirvana fan who said that- i love nirvana, but they have plenty of "three chord songs" themselves, careful what you say) and basically nobody who plays guitar these days can play more than 3 notes per chord or wander away from the commercialism and do stuff in different time signatures or whatever. In terms of... Bass maybe yeah, Mark isn't brilliant, Flea easily outweighs him.... but Anthony is just a talentless prick who flaps his arms about all the time, can't even play an instrument... and John's guitar "riffs" are just dull. Travis owns Chad on drums too..

in terms of skill Blink probably actually outweigh them... just Blink are too immature to be pulled off as more of a "great" band

I’m sorry but this really needs to be said.

I am tired of this simplistic attitude; that when something is not hyper technical it is of no value.
Blink 182 might not be the band that posses the best musicians in the industry. It is probable that if that band was pointed out, meaning the band which did contain the best musicians as measured on as objective a standard as capable of being made, most who denigrate blink 182 for being poor musicians would not like that band either. That makes the position from which they argue inconsistent.

Blink 182 was capable, at least to me and many people like me, to sum up common experiences that related to us and our situations. Russell and Nietzsche call this a “fellow-feeling,” which in the absence of god, is all most have to look forward to. So when one group is able to encapsulate an experience, and reveal certain courses of action, or at least make someone crack a smile by making the absurdity of life seem less serious, then I am sorry, that makes it at least subjectively good music.

Good wine is good. Bad wine will get you drunk. Both serve their purpose for those that like wine. I personally like beer, as good beer costs less then good wine. Stupid, absurd, narrow, and arbitrary standards are for the masses. A sophisticated music listener can understand and place value on a piece given both the creators intent and their own arbitrary fellow feeling.

I guess that what makes me angrier when I read these types of posting is the “I told you so” attitude or the “come on they were a crappy band all along” statements.

Instead, I recommend a “these are the reasons that I waste my limited time on earth listening to this music on earth instead of this music” instead of a “that is shit and no one should listen to it attitude.”

And, now with this wonderful thing called the “internets” giving us all the option to really seek music that interests or speaks to us, lets ****ing stop all this stupid arguing about how the music industry chooses shitty music and forces it on us. We have won. Our generation truly has the ability to seek out whatever self-loathing crap that we want.

From now on everyone get a ****ing life, including me. I now have concluded this debate for all time. Everyone is now free to like whatever music they feel like listening to and to morn the lose of bands that they once liked without worries of some idiot making stupid comments coming and cheapening the only thing that really does exist; the knowledge that everything is absurd and all we really have is the ability to commiserate with those who see the absurdity in the same way.
