Bob Weston, Former Fleetwood Mac Guitarist, Dies

Bob Weston, a British guitarist best-known for his brief tenure with Fleetwood Mac in the early ’70s, has died at age 64. Weston passed away at his London home on Tuesday (January 3) from a gastrointestinal hemorrhage brought on by cirrhosis of the liver.

Weston joined Fleetwood Mac in late 1972 as a replacement for troubled guitarist Danny Kirwan. His contributions to the band’s 1973 albums, "Penguin" and "Mystery To Me", were formidable, featuring outstanding slide guitar as well as accomplished harmonic playing and banjo work.

Weston also sang with Christine McVie on the track "Did You Ever Love Me", and wrote the instrumental, "Caught In The Rain", which closed out the "Penguin" album.

In late 1973, Fleetwood Mac discovered that Weston had been having an affair with Mick Fleetwood’s wife, Jenny Boyd, and he was subsequently fired.

During his post-Fleetwood Mac years, Weston recorded with the likes of Steve Marriott, Murray Head and Long John Baldry. He also released several solo albums, most of which are now out of print.

Thanks for the report to Russell Hall, Gibson.com.
