Bon Jovi Keyboardist Vs. Axl Rose

Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan has criticised Axl Rose for turning up late to a show last week.

As previously reported, Axl Rose caused outrage in London when he arrived onstage two hours late and finished the show at 1am leaving many people stranded.

Appalled at the behaviour, Bryan told Musicrooms: "To be honest I think it's the same behaviour that was there zillions of years ago. I just don't get it.

"We will never ever do that to our fans. It's an honour and a big gift to get to where we are. If any curfew is going to be broken it's because we're playing longer."

I said this before...when I saw bruce springsteen in edmonton(by the way the cup is coming home tonight)...he was like an hour and half late, but who cares the show kicked major ass and was worth the wait. Same with korn they were an hour late and being on the floor at a korn concert waiting with know music runs you down before the show even starts....so if these guys can do it with no slack than axl for sure is allowed to get away with it once in a while....and I agree with everything botsygirl says, bands like bonjovi who you can see anytime have to work for the audience cause they arent a rare band to see.....besides at least axl showed up...I was one who was stood up at the vancouver show in 2002.

But I saw GNR, and after that..music evolves..they changed Metal. No other band has moved me like GNR, none. Bon Jovi, I dont like them but I agree with the keyboardist. It's just not professional to arrive an hour late to a show. The way that i figure is this...

1. I agree, GnR is a much greater band than Bon Jovi (However, Slippery When Wet is still a fun album)
2.While you can't compare the two bands, David Bryan is right. Axl is lucky as hell to have "Rock Star" as a job on his resume, and he abuses that luck. When I went to see The Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl thanked the crowd and pointed out that he is the luckiest man alive because of the fact that he is a rock star "I'm at work right now!" he said. I grant him a great deal of respect for that. Axl on the other hand thinks that he is worthy of our adoration because he is a washed up rock star. Yes, GnR is one of the greatest bands ever, but come on, he is a tool.
3.I wouldn't go see GnR anymore, it's not Gnr anymore, its Axl n' Friends.

The best keyboardist in the world will allways be better than the best guitarist, he can play the rhythm, bass, melody, lead, and beat all at the same time if neccesary due to the range of his instrument. Don't speak so quickly. I agree with you, the piano/keyboard is the root of all insturments, but that doesn't mean the best keyboardist in the world is better than everyone. And Kurt Cobain couldn't play the insturment half as well as his peers, but we worship him for communicating pure emotion through it. In the end, wouldn't you rather have a musician who is great at a few things than a musician who is good at everything?

Well... Go figure. A keyboard player getting slagged on a guitar website. Never saw that coming.

Her's the rub. Both bands MADE good music. Both bands now make mediocre music. If I decide to plop down my hard earned money for a ticket to a show, the band should show up on time. We all know how music is. Occasionally there problems with the switch-over. As a sound engineer I have had shows start up to 30 mins late. Never, has it been because some aging rock-star prima donna didn't show up.
Lastly, keyboardists have it hard. They have to play using... gasp... theory. They have to know it inside and out. They can't play chords by pattern recognition. They HAVE to learn to read music... bass and treble clef. And if any of you had ever played in a band with a half decent keyboard player, you would have a lot more respect for them.
Is David Bryan a stellar keyboard player... I don't really know, He plays in a band with two major stars. He wisely stays back and let's the stars in his band shine. As I recall Izzy kind of did the same thing. Is Axl more talented... I doubt it. He does one thing well. High pitched screams. There is dissention over how much involvement he has in the writing of the 3 classic albums everyone is referring to. My guess he showed up late, so the band had to write the songs without him.

As many other people have said im a much bigger GnR fan than Bon Jovi, but Axl has to learn that he cant just keep leaving fans stranded anymore! GnR were the biggest band in the world 2 decades ago, and back then they were so big that Axl could afford to not turn up at shows. But now Axl has lost half of his fans because of the seperation, the last thing he should be doing is turning up late, not showing up and threaten to walk off. He wants to prove to the world that this is a new band not the old one repeating itself with different members...its about time he ****ing shows it!

Dave Bryan went to ****ing Juillard. He's not only written scores for broadway but he's written some great solo ablums and some really ****in good shit with BJ. And he's a great singer aswell, and he plays a ton of intruments. And he plays them well. He's obviously a better keyboardist than Axl, but also a better singer! GnR wrote some good music back in the day, and VR still kick ass, but Axl is a disrespectful twat. Bon Jovi has had the same band lineup since day one, minus the bassist who quit in '95 but since then they've had the same bassist too. And they put on one of the best live shows on earth, they treat the fans with respect and they are nice to journalists. Because of moral ****in fibre and good character! Axl has nothing on Dave. Not musically, and definately not as a person.

Hey, I much prefer to listen to GnR over Bon Jovi, but, I hate to break it to you: Bon Jovi has sold 120 million albums worldwide to G n R's 90 million. So from a success point of view, I think Bon Jovi has Axl beat.

Bottom line: Axl is an ******* who made some great music a long time ago and still thinks he's a God. As long as the fans he keeps shitting on continue to idolize him, it will continue that way.
