Bono has the makings to be president or prime minister, according to Tony Blair. In the former British prime minister new memoirs, titled A Journey, Blair speaks about the U2 frontman’s political skills.
On page 555, he wrote that Bono "could have been a president or prime minister standing on his head. He had an absolutely natural gift for politicking, was great with people, very smart and an inspirational speaker... motivated by an abundant desire to keep on improving, never really content or relaxed. I knew he would work with George [W. Bush] well, and with none of the prissy disdain of most of his ilk."
No word yet on any political plans for Bono, although he and his band are currently conquering Europe on their
U2 360° Tour.
Blair writes about other musicians in A Journey, including The Jam’s Paul Weller and Billy Bragg, who campaigned for the politician and his party in the 1980s.
"It was great," he wrote. "But I remember saying after one of their gigs... ‘We need to reach the people listening to Duran Duran and Madonna.’ [The comment] went down like a cup of sick."
