Bono: 'My Music Will Last 100 Years'

U2 frontman Bono has proclaimed that he'd rather be remembered for his music than his activism. He said the following in an interview at CBS' "60 Minutes", that aired Sunday:

"I think my work the activism will be forgotten. And I hope it will. Because I hope those problems will have gone away".

Since 1999, Bono has helped persuade Republicans and Democrats, presidents and lawmakers, to provide millions to help end the scourge of AIDS, eliminate poverty in Africa and forgive Third World debt, reports ABC News.

The Irish rocker also predicted that his music will still be around in 100 years, explaining that his songs occupy "an emotional terrain that didn't exist before our group did."

And Bono said he has no intention of slowing down. He noted that people in rock 'n roll burn out at age 40, and said he wanted to see if his band could continue making "extraordinary" music.

"You know I'm still hungry," said the 45-year-old winner of 14 Grammy awards. "I still want a lot out of music."

In other news, U2 have announced the first dates of their ongoing Vertigo tour for 2006, including their first Australasian shows in eight years. The "Vertigo 06" tour will also take in shows around Mexico, South America and Japan.

Dates for the Australasian dates are as follows (tickets go on sale on December 5):

03/21 - Brisbane Queensland Sports & Athletics Centre

As a huge U2 fan and something of an intellectual (well at least in comparison to all of you, well most of you are fourteen so that doesn't say much) I'd just like to say that U2's music will be around in one hundred years, I be listening under I'm pushing up daisy's and my children will as well, they'll be listening to everything that they consider to be good, I listen to Louis Armstrong and Django Reinhardt and the majority of their work is from the 1930s.

Edge is also a great guitarist for proof listen to the Unforgettable fire, and then maybe you'll understand.

But I doubt you will for most of you (read as most of you ignorant bastards) have yet to discover the true power of music, that may be a pretentious statement but I think the majority of posts have validated my views exponentially.

Bono is the biggest phony of all times; u2 are a ruthless money making machine, that their anxiety of losing a place in the charts as the other 80's bands with date of use, was perceived as "experimentation" and "a step forward"; their utterly nonsensical and simplistic lyrics were dressed with all sorts of "higher" meanings, when in fact they had none to begin with in most cases - and when they did, they'd whine and preach about everything, achieving nothing, pretty much as Bono's "activism"; their rusty new wave-ish sound didn't progress even an inch eversince the late seventies, it was simply dressed over by teams of star producers to fit "in the new age" everytime once u2 was outdated sometime in 1988.

Bono still exhibits such a pitiful lack of self confidence to this day (the hope to be remembered is only another proof of that) that he'll do anything to stay "succesful" and "on the limelight" - an easy fit for the light s*** he is.

As for those who say that "millions can be wrong", well they can and they are... if you forgot, New kids on the block, take that, the spice girls, bon jovi and the like sold together with ther souls to the devil, millions of albums. u2 tend to be worst though, since their pretexes and insistance of being called "the best r'n'r band in the world" (= silliest concept on earth).
And as for the guy that thinks that u2 critics are 14... we are not Mr Michelangelo, we are in all probability much, much older than you...
