Former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch says he can't seem to make money from music anymore - which frees him to make the music he wants to.
Now he's releasing a new album to follow "Save Me From Myself" three years ago, and has prepared a video for his new single, "Paralyzed" which you can see below.
"The new record is stuff I am going through now. I am trying to get the best song, but it does have to be real to me," he told Metal Exiles (via Blabbermouth). "I cannot write a song just to sell it because I cannot make money from music anymore now anyway.
"'Paralyzed' talks about a lot of pain like emotional depression, which is not all the time, but I do feel a lot of pain, so I like to talk about it."
He says that his new single "Paralyzed" is about life being filled with lawsuits.
"I have made some bad decisions, as well as getting into some bad partnerships that I should not have," he said. "I found out because of that I can get through anything, and with God's help, I can get through any battle."
Head once said his last album was seriously lacking in riffs - something he remedied for the new record. "It was good for what it was but I have grown a lot since then and I know what works for me live vocally and a lot of those songs are hard for me to do live. I think on this album we are at a new level with guitar riffs."
I love this song. Can't wait for the rest of the EP and/or album. Jasen Rauch is a huge force in producing, I look for him to be one of the huge names in the industry for hard rock artists very soon. Head's voice has gotten so much better, and he's making far better music than Korn.
I love Head's solo stuff...I also love "KornStep". But its funny that it took a whole different genre of music to replace one guitarist in a band to make them commercially good.
I actually really dig Head's stuff. I really try not to compare him to Korn, but it's unmistakable what happened to them after he left. However, I did hear one of the new Korn songs on the radio, and I really don't see why it's considered so odd..it sounded like a Korn song with hip-hop beats...which of course they have done before. It was definitely better than Korn III. As for Head...he's awesome. He writes really good stuff. Looking forward to both of these records, and I'm glad Head and Korn have gotten into something resembling a groove.
So now instead of one guy in his mid to late 30s singing about things that should only be coming out of an angsty 15 year old girls mouth, we have 2...
Dont fool yourselves you guys, singing about subject matter from a teenagers diary when you're a fully grown man does not make you talented.
Nu metal make be pretty dead but Brian still has it. also the korn/dubstep album might be good, the 2 tracks from it so far are great but will the rest of the album hold up?
Guys, he left so that he could write music with a Christian message. That's what he meant by 'the music he wants to.' There's NO way her could've written what he is or exemplified a Christian by staying in Korn.
man people have got the "christian message" for thousands of years. His music is wayyy better than KoRn's and this is obviously why there are no bad ass riffs anymore, Head's gone... makes perfect sense now. I'd pay to see head live
