Chris Cornell Not Joining Led Zeppelin

Former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell has spoken out for the first time about rumors that he's been asked to fill in for Robert Plant on a proposed Led Zeppelin reunion tour. The trek would feature original guitarist Jimmy Page, original bassist John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham taking over on drums for his late father, John Bonham.

"I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn't to say I won't be," Cornell told MTV News. "I've heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it's just an online rumor or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss tour."

He may be a temp in your eyes but Cornell has to be one of the greatest rock vocalists ever. I think doing a Zepp tour wouldn't be a good move, he should stick to his own stuff.

As much as I love Led Zeppelin I would pay even more money just to see Soundgarden get together, even if it's only for one show.

Zeppelin will never reach the same level of greatness quality wise because they miss their legendary drummer, their singer can't reach the high notes anymore (and like Cornell he relied on them a lot) and even Page has been getting a bit rusty. John Paul Jones on the other hand has been touring frequently ever since LZ's demise and he's still an awesome musician!

I would still love to see these guys because their songs are timeless and they're basically a bunch of living legends, but musically I think that Soundgarden could easily reach its old level. I saw the proof last year: Cornell's voice sounded better than ever when I saw him on his last tour. I just hope his next album won't be as bad as it promises to be...

As much as I love Zep, I think they wouldn't be up to it, and I'm kinda glad. Mind you, these guys are my all-time favorite band and the reason I love music so much and why it is a big part of my life. These guys are already gods of rock and have a legacy in music that many could only ponder or dream of having. These guys' story is set in stone already, and I wouldn't wanna see them go out with ANYONE ELSE THAN PLANT AS A FRONTMAN. That being said, I don't think Robert can or is up to it, so I think people (Zep included) should let this go already.

i know this sounds awful but i think its exactly what they're worried about. if the rumoirs about the tour are true then i think they have a very limited amount of time to go ahead and do it before health constraints or endless other factors no longer work in their favour.

no doubts that Cornell used to be an amazing vocalist, but i saw him live in august on that tour with Linkin Park, and i think he's sort of lost his touch. he's still good, but he just can't sing as well live as he can in the studio. i was actually a bit disappointed with Cornell's live show, honestly. if he did this tour it wouldn't be all that great, i imagine.

I don't think it's actually about who can hit the right notes, i think that it's very important Plant is there, coz it stays further to the Zeppelin philosophy that everything is done as a band. If they go on a reunion our and fail, then they've failed together.

Simple, If you must tour which i'm sure is a possibility then it needs to be successful in the Paul Rodgers Queen sense. Powerful vocalist suited to the style but not a carbon copy of the original vocalist. With that said Chris Robinson springs to mind, he has toured with the greatest bands, Aerosmith and such and with Jimmy Page before with The Crowes so experience is not an issue, he has a unique vocal sensibility and as an added bonus he is a fan of the Led so he won't have to worry about learning all the words...

i think it would be cool, but plant has to be 1st choice. if they went for someone else, look at the bad press queen and paul rodgers got, not that i care cos i enjoyed that. anyway cornell is the only singer with a voice close to plants. chris robinson from the black crowes? the album they did with page shows he's way too weak to do it, poor choice.

In all seriousness, Zep should just stop. Not a fan of Plant as it is. And Cornell would be a terrible replacement. If anyone should replace the man, it should be...nobody. Let it die.
And Audioslave's early stuff was good. Rage was fun if you just wanted to throw your head around.
