Eric Clapton recently went under the knife to have some gallstones removed from his gall bladder. He apparently plans to continue with his current touring plans in 2010, but he has dropped his appearance from The Hall of Fame concert on October 30th and 31st in Madison Square Garden in order to recover. His publicist has said the he is recovering just fine at his home in England.
Gallstones are like kidney stones, except they form in the gallbladder instead of the kidneys.
Gallstones generally pass without any symptoms and are usually discovered through a routine x-ray. But it if the gallstones are severe enough to the point that symptoms begin to show, surgery is usually the treatment.
Clapton will be replaced at the concert by former fellow Yardbird guitarist and recent Hall of Famer Jeff Beck. Other performers at the concert include Bruce Springsteen (barring the need to cancel due to the recent death of his cousin), Crosby Stills & Nash, U2, Metallica, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder.
HBO will air highlights from both nights on November 29th.
