Coldplay Ringtone Hits TV

When detective Danny Messer investigates another crime scene on "CSI: NY" tonight, his phone will sound to the tune of Coldplay's single "Talk" -- as part of a cross-promotional agreement between CBS and Capitol Records, according to Reuters.

The call will come in during a key scene, after which viewers will be offered the opportunity to purchase the ringtone of the song for their cell phone.

In addition to the ringtone, "Talk" also will serve as background music during a later scene in the broadcast. The track is taken from Coldplay's "X&Y" album, which debuted at No. 1 in 32 countries when it was released in June.

CBS will run a message instructing viewers how to obtain the ringtone, which will be available exclusively for one week through major wireless carriers and eventually on CBS.com. The $2.49 product is in Realtone format, meaning it is an actual clip from the band's original recording rather than a tonal reproduction.

Earlier this year, Coldplay teamed with Cingular to debut the new track "Speed Of Sound" as a ringtone before the song hit radio stations and before the release of "X&Y."

I loved Parachutes, still do, but their other albums aren't really great. Infact now I hate Coldplay (apart from Parachutes, as I said). They are just a very boring band in my opinion. And they are so big for it. I don't like how crappy bands that are just churning out the crap turn out to be the most successful. There are many bands that are much more skilful and have much better songs, yet they are struggling to make it really big, and they deserve to. And also, I wouldn't really class this as news...
