Creed To Reunite In 2009

As first tipped last month, Creed is hammering out details for a lucrative 2009 reunion tour, sources tell Billboard. The Scott Stapp-led group, which was one of the top sellers of the past decade, has not performed since a rancorous split in June 2004.

Stapp promptly embarked on a solo career, while guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips and original bassist Brian Marshall formed Alter Bridge with vocalist Myles Kennedy and released two albums. The 2004 Wind-Up debut, "One Day Remains," sold 496,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan; a 2006 follow-up for Universal, "Blackbird," has moved 227,000.

However, Kennedy is rumored to be the top contender to replace Robert Plant for a tour with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. And following a recent USO tour performing for American servicemen oversees, Stapp is said to be in prime physical and mental condition.

As such, there are "significant dollars" on the table for a Creed trek, according to sources close to the situation, who say an official announcement could be imminent. A spokesperson for Wind-Up tells Billboard, "There have been some talks, but it would be premature to comment on them at this time."

Creed has sold 26.1 million albums in the United States since 1997, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group was also a significant touring presence, having grossed more than $70.3 million from 220 shows reported to Billboard Boxscore between November 1997 and December 2002.

All I have to say is this, if Creed reforms for a reunion tour, then t Mark Tremonti is a huge hypocrite for the past four or so years. He always said that he couldn't stand Scott Stapp and that he has more freedom and enjoyment with Alter Bridge.
I only know Creed from their hit songs and I like a few of them, but I always saw them as a psuedo- grunge wannabe band.

If this happens, I will loose all respect for my favorite band (AB). Tremonti has always been an inspiration to me because he says creed will never happen again, dispite the fact that alter bridge are making next to no money in comparrison. I think they should stay as alter bridge and make the most of the creative freedom they have. In the last interwiew while Tremonti was trying to say that nobody contacted kennedy for Led Zeppelin's reunion, the journalist who interwied him was trying to make him say that creed will reunite if Kennedy accepts (even if Tremonti was denying)... he said that even if they offer him milions and milions of dollars he'd probably still say no, and I trust him. To get to what I was saying, it's hard to compare both Creed and Alter Bridge when they have very different sounds even though most of the band's the same members. If Creed were to get back together, hopefully Tremonti will continue his amazing guitar playing like in AB and not go back to what he was doing in early Creed.

If this is the case, that really does tend to elan on the rumours that Robert Plant denied going on tour with Zep and they took on Myles for it - which would leave open the option for a creed tour.

I am a huge fan of Tremonti. He is one of my favorite guitarists because of his work with Alter Bridge, not Creed. Stapp is an a***** and Tremonti would be making a huge mistake going back to Creed. This is truly a sad day in music. I liked Creed when they had songs like "Bullets" and "Freedom Fighter" but they never would play that live because they weren't popular hits. And even those songs were nothing spectacular.

I really never wholly understood why Creed of all the bands out around that time got SOOOO popular. I think Tremonti and the gang have written their best music on Blackbird(ODR was ok but they really blossomed on Blackbird).

Stapp is not anything special to me. He can write a chorus but that's about all he can offer. The rest is all filler work. His vocals are distinct but not amazing.

all I can say is that I'm happy about this. I really like Creed's music and a lot of their songs have really deep meanings for me. Sure Scott may not be the most moral guy in the world, but hey, that doesn't change the fact that he's got a good voice and with both him and Tremonti working together, they made some really amazing stuff. So do I agree with all of Scott's decisions in his personal life? Absolutley not. Do I think that he is a talented musician capable of creating meaningful music? 100% yes.

Ok I just feel I should clarify for the confused; This article is talking about a reunion tour, not a reformation, not a new cd. They would be touring and playing the old Creed songs we've all heard. Myles, if chosen to replace Plant on the Zeppelin tour, would not be leaving Alter Bridge, he would be touring with the band and possibly recording some new stuff with the Zep guys under a new band name.
In summation; Alter Bridge will continue making music. Creed will neither be making new music nor "back together". Myles Kennedy will still remain the voice of Alter Bridge.
