Creed's Scott Stapp To Norwegian Boy: 'You Rock!'

artist: creed date: 01/31/2011 category: general music news

The story of a young Norwegian boy who fended off a pack of wolves with "heavy metal music" caught the world’s attention. Thankfully, it was a happy ending for 13-year-old Walter Eikrem, who bravely fought the instinct to run and instead turned up his ear buds to blast Creed’s "Overcome," scaring the animals away.

So what does Creed have to say about its role in saving the young lad’s life?

"It’s crazy how it may have fended off those wolves," still astonished singer Scott Stapp tells THR. "I’m just really glad the boy is alive and safe. His mom is probably the hero with good survival advice not to run."

Indeed, Eikrem told Norway’s TV2, "The worst thing you can do is run away because doing so just invites the wolves to chase you down. But I was so afraid that I couldn't even run away if I'd wanted to."

The fact that it was their 2009 song "Overcome," the Creed frontman adds, is "flattering," but it’s all about the "very clever" Eikrem, who no doubt has a backstage pass to the band’s next show in Oslo. Says Stapp: "Walter, you're a brave young man and you rock!"
