Dave Grohl's Open Letter To Metallica

Former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has released the following "open letter" to Metallica:

"Dear Metallica,

"Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I'm the guy that's been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album 'Kill 'Em All' from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can't remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I've been listening to your albums ever since (even 'St Anger'!).

"I can't wait to hear the new shit, and no matter what you guys do I'll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I'm sure you'll come out and blow everybody's fuckin' minds, because you're fuckin' Metallica!

"Good luck. And don't release it until it's kick-ass.

"Yours, Dave Grohl.

"P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?"

STOP BEING SILLY! Sure, Lars isn't the best drummer in the world, but he's pretty bloody amazing nonetheless, and more importantly, he suits Metallica perfectly. AC/DC have about as basic a rhythm section as you can get, and you might have noticed that they're one of the greatest bands of all time.

Decadence is one of the things that is making modern metal pretty boring. Everyone has to play the fastest and most complex beat/bassline/solo that they possibly can, and that equals ludicrous fills, unnecessary slapping and ridiculous sweep-picking. Here's an idea - write a good song, not just a complex one?

Whatever you say man, Era Vulgaris is much better than Lullabies so I wouldn't call you accurate because Era Vulgaris while different could stand up to Songs for the Deaf and Dave has been in easily a half dozen bands for at least that amount of time I could name.

Unfortunatly St. Anger was the first metallica album I heard all the way through(I'd only ever heard enter sandman and nothing else matters before that) and I can honestly say that i thought it was crap, even though I'd never heard any of metallicas other stuff and it seriously put me off even giving the band a chance for a year or so until my friend showed me "Master of Puppets"

Just wanted to write a quick note to clear up this whole "Open letter to Metallica" fiasco.....For the record, I never "wrote" anything to Metallica. I was asked by a journalist, at the end of a long interview (abut the Foo Fighters) to give a quick message to Metallica in the studio. So, I rattled that quote off the top of my head. No biggie, right? Somehow it became my "open letter" to the band, and now it's been picked up by everyone from Blabbermouth to Rolling Stone (as if anyone really cares!). Now, it's true that I've been a loyal fan of this band for 25 years, and I can't wait to hear the new shit, but an "open letter" to the band?!!?? Nah. Not my style. I'd rather just text 'em.....

OK.....just needed to get that off my chest. Hope you guys are good. Thanks for coming out to the shows, they've been a blast. Only a few more before we crawl back into our cave and hibernate. It's gonna be a looooong winter.....
