It's a shame Kerry King hates Mustaine. I think if it was just Metallica, Megadeth could be there...but with Slayer there too, I don't know...

And anybody else feel like the last few sentences of the article were unnecessary?

WTF would you read an article you don't even care about? Show somegoddamn respect for him at least. Even if you don't like Dimebag's work you could have the decency to admit he was a very talented guitarist. You're just a prick who wishes you were half the player he was.

You do realize that Mustaine's first choice for a lead guitarist on Rust In Peace was Dimebag, right? Dimebag refused because he wouldn't take Vinnie Paul, so Mustaine settled for Friedman.

Did you watch that? The solo was so bad. It was Dead Note City. Should have just let Petrucci finish it. Besides, Mustaine claimed that Pantera ripped off his riffs, until Dime died, and then all he could say was: "
When you get to the level of guitar playing that I'm at and that he was at, the air is pretty thin up there...

He just had to put in that he thinks he's as good as Dime.

They should include Zakk really. I'm not a big fan of his, but they were friends.

And to the people saying Dave won't be there becasue he doesn't get along with king, well King also apparently hates kirk hammet. I believe he once said that kirk is the most overatted metal guitarist ever or something like that. And I didn't know anything about Dave talking shit about pantera in their heyday but dave was still friends with dime. He even asked Dime to join megadeth in the 80's but he refused because he only wanted to join if his brother could be on drums too but dave said no because he just hired nick menza on drums at the time.

Dream Theater did a cover of Cemetary Gates on the first Gigantour in Dallas that also had Russel Allen from Symphony X and Burton C. Bell from Fear Factory on vocals. Then Dave Mustaine came out for the solo and played his own solo instead of the original, and it was really out of place and sounded horrible there. They really should have let Petrucci handle it, or brought out Michael Romeo from Symphony X, I can definitely hear a Pantera vibe in some of his work.

I don't think they were friends. He asked Dime to join after hearing their album Power Metal, but Dime refused, and then Dave made the plagiarism accusations. The offer to be in the band was made before Dave started talking shit about Pantera.

They couldn't have picked a better place than Dallas to do it. Dime would be so honored that all of these individuals would come together and pay tribute to him for all that he gave to us. The man did things on the guitar that most people wish they could, including the individuals here making disparaging remarks. The man is GREAT and is beyond reproach. Not "mediocre" or "mallcore" whatever the hell that is. Granted, his murder is closing in on it's 4th anniversary and a tribute may indeed be too late, but regardless. I honestly don't believe that a tribute for someone like Dime could ever be "too late". The tributes are to remind fans and musicians alike of the greatness and down to earth soul that was lost on that f*cked up night, at the hands of a piece of sh*t. If you don't like Dime, fine. Don't label him as "mediocre" because he damn sure wasn't. When you can produce a catalog the caliber of Dimebag Darrell, then you have EVERY right to talk sh*t. Until then, show some respect, man! Rest In Peace, Brother Dime. We love and miss you!

Cheers!

Does any one else think that Rex Brown should be there too? (Pantera's bassist for those who didnt know) i mean he HAD to have been very close to Dimebag. As for the Mustaine situation with Dime, mustaine asked dimebag to be on the album Rust In Peace (as said earlier) so doesn't that show some sort of freindship? but yes i do know what Mustaine has said in past interviews aswell! and yeah its so awsome that the tribute is in Dallas, i think Hellyeah should be there too JUST so they can do 'Thank You', if you have heard the song u will know why, if you haven't GET YOUTUBING IT! it will fit in perfectly with the tribute

Come to think of it, i think it would be kind of nice if the old Pantera Singer, Phil somethingorother?, was present. i know him and Dime parted ways on poor terms, but still.

All the tools on this blog saying that one band should be there over another really have no idea of the kind of person Dime was. Dime would jam with anyone and would honored to have Anthrax, BLS, Slayer, or practically anyone else doing this. Possibly the biggest tribute would be if the guys from Kiss said a few words or jammed on a song since anyone who knows anything about Dime's history knows Kiss is what started it all for him. That probably won't happen, but don't start saying certain guys should be there or not. I doubt anyone on this board could hang with any of the talents playing there. Blacktooth Grin's 4ever, R.I.P. MUSTAINE IS A BADASS GUITAR PLAYER
everyone in metallica was a drunk ass mother****er
(thats when there music didnt suck like it did with the black album and after, hey, go figure thats when they sobered up and cut there hair, *******s)
and tallicas bitch asses ripped off the four horsemen from mustaine, long live mechanix

i agree dimes friends should tribute him,
and i hope that even if some of these guitarists egos do collide often, they would have the respect to put it aside to make this the best tribute they can
i would certainly hope none of these guitarists would jeperdize the quality of the tribute with some childish feelings

dime can be overrated at times simply because hes more well known now that hes dead and his face/name is on everything and this generation (i would know im a part of it) looks at the face value and the names more than whats its really about 99% of the ****in time
but he was still a good guitarist, no doubt
hes not as overrated as jimi hendrix or kiss (i know he loved kiss but that dont mean they arent sellouts and that they dont suck)

and furthermore, no one from avenged sevenfold should be there, metalcore is NOT metal, especially the kind that dime & friends produce(ed)

rest in peace man, because you deserve to

It's been 4 years, not 30 years and if it's good music from cool guys paying tribute to not only a great guitarist, but a great person, why the **** does it matter what the reason for playing is? Would it make people happy for these guys just to jam together and not say it's a Dime tribute? I don't see the big deal...it's a label.
