Enter Shikari, The Prodigy, Alt-J Triumph At AIM Independent Music Awards

Enter Shikari, The Prodigy and Alt-J were among the winners at yesterday's (October 29) Aim Independent Music Awards, which honours artists signed to independent record labels.

The St Albans' band, who led with the most nominations across all artist categories, landed the Independent Album of the Year accolade with their album "A Flash Flood Of Colour", beating off stiff competition from Alabama Shakes and Liars.

The Prodigy proved a popular choice with live music fans by picking up the Best Live Act award, while Alt-J came away with the Independent Breakthrough of the Year gong.

Meanwhile, Adele capped off a momentous year by winning the PPL Award for Most Played Independent Act, First Aid Kit went home with the Best 'Difficult' Second Album prize and 65daysofstatic were named the Hardest Working Band.

Elsewhere, rapper Wiley picked up the Genre Spotlight Award for his ninth studio album "Evolve Or Be Extinct", 13th Floor Elevators' "Music Of The Spheres" was awarded the Special Catalogue Release of the Year and Edwyn Collins was awarded Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.

Along with presenting Collins with his award, Frankie & The Heartstrings performed at the ceremony held at the Brewery in Clerkenwell, London. Big Deal and Land Observations also played.

In the non-artist related awards, Black Butter Records won Best Small Independent Label, Bella Union's Simon Raymonde took away Independent Entrepreneur of the Year, Independent Label of the Year went to 4AD, IME Music's Ian Evans was named Indie Champion, Mute's Daniel Miller won the Pioneer Award and LeeFest was declared Best Independent Festival.
