Eric Clapton has famously sold his most famous guitars, with proceeds going to his Crossroads charity. But the U.K. rock-blues legend obviously still has money to burn.
He recently ordered a bespoke Ferrari sports car that reportedly cost $4.6 million. Clapton worked with the car company’s Special Projects division to re-body a Ferrari 458 Italia – itself worth $275,000 in standard issue.
Prototype drawings of Clapton’s own model have now been posted – see them here.
And there is also footage of the wonder-car being driven to delivery from London to Clapton. Note the "EPC" plates – "Eric Patrick Clapton". Clapton, like Billy F. Gibbons and others, is a renowned car-head. But he will have to be careful with this ridiculously expensive beast.
They called E.C. "Slowhand" in the 1970s. Let’s hope he doesn’t get caught for speeding in this 4.5 liter V8 machine.
Truth - but I do think it looks silly when he sells off some of his possessions for charity donations (ie other people paying $$$ for stuff he bought for a coupel grand/got for free) and then turns around to buy a car that costs more than a lot of people make in their entire lives.
Actually I always wanted a classic Trans Am with the wave light like Nightriders Kitt.Like to have the turbo boost too,as it would be like, see ya Clapton!!!!
I am happy for the guy, but as a car enthusiast, I really think he should have just bought a standard 458, its sooo much better looking than the "Clapton" Ferrari. would have saved him a few mil too...
4.6 mil on a Ferrari and all it takes is one asshat sending a text to **** it up royaly... Why not save a bit of cash, put maybe a couple hundred thousand (still going to get you a spectacular car) and donate a mil or so to your charity?
I just can't fathom throwing away that kind of money on a car.
I couldn't see myself spending that much on a car even if I was filthy f***ing rich. 4.6 million dollars can do so much more than buy a car.
agree

Can't spend it when you're dead. I'd say Clapton has more than earned it. Enjoy!
but also agree. I dont know, if I was his age, I might be privy to blowing a lot of my fortune. And to everyone hating on him, he has raised a LOT of money for charity. I mean a shit ton.
I dunno why Clapton butchered the 458 Italia like that, it now looks like a McLaren.... The Italia is a BEAST of a Ferrari, and one of the few GOOD things to come out of there in a LONG time...
Eh it looks ok...I'm not quite sure what makes it worth $4.6 mil though.
Because it's "one of a kind".
Truly, nothing makes it worth 4.6 million and it definitely did not cost Ferrari anywhere near 4.6 million to actually build it.
The argument against this is always "oh well, if he has the money let him spend it".....Just because you're rich and can afford it, doesn't mean the item in question isn't insanely over-priced and the consumer isn't being screwed. Even if it takes several pages to print his/her bank account balance.
Imagine how much women you could get cruising around in a custom Ferrari built in your name... I guess being a legendary guitar player couldn't hurt either.
Anyone mind telling me what's so wrong with my comment? I can't believe how childish this community has become, it's like I'm surrounded by 15 year old new-to-metal fans again.
Jealous much? :
