Ex-QOTSA Bassist Shows Up

Greg Prato of Billboard.com is reporting that former Queens Of The Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri has teamed up with several friends for his latest Mondo Generator release, "Dead Planet: Sonicslowmotiontrails". In addition to some pals from his Palm Desert, Calif., hometown, British duo Winnebago Deal (guitarist Ben Perrier and drummer Ben Thomas) appear on several tracks.

Oliveri met the band on the road, and during an off day, Winnebago Deal joined him on stage. Soon after, Winnebago Deal had become part of the latest ever-rotating cast of Mondo Generator.

"We were on tour with Motörhead and wanted to make a record," Oliveri tells Billboard.com. "I kind of brought them out here. We went to [Dave Grohl's] Studio 606 and recorded some stuff ? we got in and got out quick. Then I had some more songs come about after they left, so I recorded some other stuff at another studio, with other people as well. [But] my favorite stuff is the stuff that they're on."

I do love him and I've seen him live, but he is inconsistent. Blues for the Red Sun was some classic bass, but some Mondo and Dwarves stuff he's done isn't all that.

SMB... I agree wit you, but you gotta remember Mondo and Dwarves are completely different. In Kyuss, Nick wasnt singing at all, so he could easily write phat bass riffs. Now, he has singing to do and when you listen to all the multitasking nick is doing, I'm rather impressed.

Mondo is a great band tho and its such a wasted talent nick not being in queens. I'm over the fact he got the boot, but nevermind, I just like Nick. Cant wait to see mondo next month at Camden Underworld, its a small place aswell.

True, his best work still remains with kyuss but mondo generator is a good band though.

I thought his best work was in Songs for the Deaf. That stuff was brilliant. Unlike you guys, I still can't get over the fact that josh kicked him out of the Queens. They're like half the band now that they were before he was booted. Still... what happens happens.

His best work as a bassist was on the kyuss stuff, no doubt about it, but his best work as a musician and singer was on songs for the deaf.

Oliveri did kick ass with kyuss and queens, but mondo generator is not a good band.
anyone who has heard the A Drug Problem that Never Existed album has to agree... (unless they just have low standards in their music)

keep in mind my dear that mondo was his side project before. now as his main focus, and the first expressive outlet for such an intense individual emerging from uncommon adversity, mondo has new meaning. -and judging his behavior based on selected fragments of the whole story-brought 2 u via the press. is no less foolish than taking high school rumors seriously. MUSIC- refocus
