Flea: My Chilli Peps Split Thoughts Are Nothing New

Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Flea admits his thoughts about splitting the band when guitarist John Frusciante refused to return are nothing new.

He reveals he’s felt it was the end of the road many times before – and it’s his default mood when things go wrong.

The band regrouped in 2009 after a two-year hiatus, at which point their axeman told them he’d finished with them.

Flea tells Guitar World: "I’ve considered pulling the plug a million times – that’s nothing new for me.

"Things get to be a bummer and I start going, ‘This is kind of a drag.’

"I just couldn’t imagine doing it without John. But when he did up and leave, some time went by and I started feeling this deep love for the band and wanted to continue it."

The Chillis hired new gun Josh Klinghoffer, who’d acted as their touring guitarist in the past, and are set to release their tenth album, I’m With You, on August 29. They’ve launched the video for lead single The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie.
