Foo Fighters are among the rock leaders in the latest round of Grammy nominations - but they're up against some stiff competition.
Dave Grohl and his foo fighting cohorts have a total of six nominations, including Album Of The Year and Best Rock Song. They have won a total of six Grammys in the past, with the last being for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2008.
Others rock artists who could be called to the stage include
Mumford & Sons,
Coldplay,
Mastodon and
Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Dream Theater have been given a Grammy nomination for what appears to be the first time in their lengthy career, for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. Korn's dubstep collaborator Skrillex has appeared in several categories, officially taking the new genre of dance music into the mainstream.
Here is a selected list of rock categories. For a full list of nominees, visit the Grammy website.
