A founding member of The Grateful Dead has been diagnosed with cancer, according to GIGWise.
Bassist Phil Lesh is suffering from prostrate cancer, but told fans on his website that after surgery next month, he hopes to make a full recovery.
In the statement, he urged men to look out for the symptoms of the disease and to go for regular check-ups.
The 66-year-old was a crux member of the band which formed in 1965 and disbanded three decades later following the death of frontman
Jerry Garcia.
Fortunately, Lesh says that the cancer has been caught in the early stages and that it is "small and slow-growing."
He is still actively performing live.
