Vince Welnick, the Grateful Dead's last keyboardist and a member of numberous other bands (the Tubes, Missing Man Formation, etc.) has died.
The cause has yet to be told to the public. Welnick died at the age of 51 years old in the northern California town of Forestville.
Welnick was the only keyboardist in the band's history to not die within a short time of leaving the band. Welnick replaced Brent Mydland, who died of a drug overdose in 1990. Before that was, Keith Godchaux who died in a car crash quickly after leaving the band. Godchaux himself had replaced the band's original keyboard player, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan.
He died at age 27 in 1973.
