Green Day Confirm That They Are Foxboro Hot Tubs

In a completely shocking move, Green Day have revealed that they are in fact, Foxboro Hot Tubs. They made the announcement in an e-mail to MTV News , ending months of not-really speculation that the Hot Tubs were Green Day.

The band added:

"We think that the only similarity [between the Hot Tubs and Green Day] is that we are the same band. That is basically the only similarity, We are Jason White, Jason Freese, Michael Pritchard, Frank Edwin Wright the Third and the Reverend Strychnine Twitch. ... We are four guys who love to play music and be spontaneous, [and] after a few late night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin' eight-track recordings."

Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt's real name is Michael Pritchard, and drummer Tre Cool was born Frank Edwin Wright III. As for Reverend Strychnine Twitch, that's probably Billie Joe's real name.

Later this month, the band will release their debut full length. The record is titled Stop Drop And Roll and is due out May 13, 2008. It may also be the follow up to American Idiot depending on how you look at it.

Thanks for the info to Punknews.org.

It's all Green Day really, the non-Green Day guys are the touring musicians with them. Jason White is the extra guitarist and Jason Freese plays piano, sax, trumpet, sings, pretty much everything really...

Hot Tubs are billiant! Can't wait for the next proper Green Day album though.

I think that the FBHT record does have quite a different sound than Green Day. Over the years, Green Day has changed their sound, but continued to play songs with a particular style that has become almost synonymous with the name Green Day. I'm sure the next "Green Day" album will maintain that sound, but by making the name of the band Foxboro Hot Tubs, they were able to play a slightly different style without the Green Day label.

Plus, who doesn't love free publicity?

i would agree, but the foxboro stuff is so radically different from anything else green day has done. also, they are bringing in their touring band as actual band members, so it's not exactly the same band. think of it as garth brooks releasing music as chris gaines.

Yes. Did you read it? Knowing what an article is about is one of the many benefits that comes along with reading an article. Usually just a headline will kind of give you just the gist of it, but it's always better to get all the details by reading the entire article. Does that help?

Thanks for the confirmation. People have to realize that Green Day is more than 3 people now...the guy who started as a touring guitarist slowly started to work his way into music videos and they started to feature him more on live t.v. performances and stuff.

Not that I care much for Green Day anymore...but this is clarification for people who don't realize GD have a few more guys now.

PHAIL. Wikipedia is a piece of shit. I have failed 5 homeworks because of that site.

And since when is a radio station legit? Last time I checked, even THE PRESIDENT can't get his facts straight.

Well the radio station and wikipedia were right on this matter and anybody with ears can tell that this was Green Day, doesn't take a genius to figure it out. And maybe it was your fault you failed your homework assignments, you can't blame it all on wikipedia. I remember doing many projects in the past where I read a ton of books and then I looked at wikipedia afterwards and it had pretty much the same facts but was more to the point. I remember writing a 5 page report in college where I only used wikipedia for my information and I got 97%. I think it was on the history of card counting in blackjack or something like that. I officially propose that you go through the whole of the American Idiot and actually count the notes for me, please? If you only recognise five notes then I think it's possible you have some hearing deficiency, or you're simply slightly tone dead. However, even if the band did use five notes and just 'rearrange them', then they did bloody well to sell 8x platinum on just five notes and I'm sure that's a talent even your ignorant self can appreciate.

i read on GDA that Linda Perry "has been making the band listen to the 'Nuggets' box sets (an influential series of compilations of 60s US garage rock and psych bands.) add that to a few too many bottles of wine and you get the Foxboro Hot Tubs

i read an article about 2 years ago that said green day were going to release 3 albums (or had songs worth 3 albums), one is a concept record, one is straight ahead punk songs and one which is how billie described "some of the strangest sounds we've ever heard"

Article is here : http://www.therockradio.com/2006/12/green-day-working-on-3-a lbums-at-once.html

The Punk Songs is the Pihead Gunpowder record which is going to be released in late May
The "strage sounds" is the Foxboro record which will be released May 13
That leaves the Green Day album which Billie said is a concept album, but who knows, that may change

so just because they released songs under different name dosent mean they were scared of what people will think. FHT is another band, its still the same members but its a DIFFERENT band, different genre of music.

first off, i love and respect green day. i've been a fan my entire life and love how a successful band like them can try out different sounds and still pull off amazing shit. props to them!

second, foxboro hot tubs and green day are not the same band. sure, theyve got the guys in it plus jason white and jason freese who toured with them but they really arent the same band. their sound is different from green day and not all the members arent the same. its just like saying all their other 'side bands' or 'side projects' are the same as green day. if you listen to the network, foxboro hot tubs, pinhead gunpowder and green day seperately, each and every band has their own sound, not to mention completely different genres so to say that green day is the same as foxboro hot tubs is like saying nirvana is like foo fighters.. they just arent.

so thanks for stating the obvious that green day was foxboro hot tubs but saying that it's a followup to american idiot is bullshit.

ok, i kinda see that point, but hot tubs is completely different sounding 60s thing, warning seems like a green day record turned down a little (listen to the lyrics in minority, theyre still kinda political) hot tubs isnt really political, its just a fun side project, whats wrong with doing an album annonomously? they can experiment with a new sound without people going WTF GREEN DAY COMPLETELY CHANGED and if people like it (like they do in this case) they could possibly expand it.

Oh dear lord sir, you are amazingly cool, yes you are. What with bashing an album that, despite being a mainstream success, was actually a good listen. You must be proud, and now you can sit at the lunch table with all of your "hard core" punk and emo kids without getting laughed at. You go sir!

who are you tiny tim? talk normal man, and im with the first guy green day sucks ass

Idiot... so now because you find out who the artist that created the music is, you dislike it more? EXACTLY why Green Day did this. The haters of Green Day really are not too smart.

i dont really like newer green day, but their foxboro stuff kicks ass. i was really hoping it wasnt the same band. i'll probably buy the cd if the name green day is no where on it.

As proven by this lovely person.

Heard some FBHT stuff, good times. Reminds me of the ol' drunken/stoned student days. O shit they're still here, thanks to Green Day for reminding me.

can i just point out, can't you tell the obviously distinct vocals of billie joe in both bands?

if you seriously thought foxboro wasnt green day (with the exception of the jasons') you're an idiot.

It may also be the follow up to American Idiot depending on how you look at it.

As for Reverend Strychnine Twitch, that's probably Billie Joe's real name.

Hahahahaha XD

- UG won't be offended, it's from Punknews.org
- It was a joke, obviously it's not his real name.
- It reads; "It may also be the follow up to American Idiot depending on how you look at it. "

I like FHT. Not really a fan of new Green Day, but they were good back in the day. Although I have a feeling that a lot of the young girls who got into GD because of American Idiot/Billie Joe will be both confused and disgusted.
But yeah, this stuff's great, even if everybody kinda did know it was GD months ago.

I like Green Day, even American Idiot, but where you people get that their fanbase was ever NOT made up largely of teen/prebuscent girls I don't know.

Seriously, were you even alive in the 90s or do you just like repeating things you hear on the internet?

American Idiot bought them the most mainstream sucess, and with it bought their new image of black/red and eyeliner, and the large increase in teen girl fans. I didn't read that on the internet, I'm just not an idiot.
I was alive in the 90s, but not old enough to appreciate Green Day in the 90s.
And basically what you're saying here is;
"Green Day's fanbase has always been little teen girls! That's a good thing and you're stupid!"

I'm sorry but this is retarded. It's not like there opposed to completely changing their sound. Why not just make it the next Green Day record? I mean, it's not even a side project if it's all of them. Not to mention everyone already knew.

Well one thing is that jason freese does not write songs with green day but does play with them check out bullet in a bible.
It also has nothing to do with the green day style so why would you release it as green day?
Have you heard of The Network? which is also Green Day in disguise. They are just havin fun while also writing the next Green Day album which i might add will kick arse!!!!

Mate you are gay. You actually think this is Green Day's follow up? THey have more respect for their fans than that. Seriously do you not remember The Network which was released before American Idiot. Green Day will be bringin out their follow up in good time. Moron

Well I'm glad billie joe is coming out with another album even if its under a different band name, but all these musicians did tour with green day on the american idiot album and all that. but they should just keep the green day name and keep making albums if they wish to do so cause foxboro hot tubs doesn't sound very good for a band name as green day does. not to mention everyone hears green day and they sell out shows like nothing. if someone told me hot tubs came to town i'd probably miss it cause its not green day. i'd think its some local band. then to find out it was billie joe there i'd feel bad cause i didnt know they were the same person. so they should stay with green day as the band name cause hot tubs sounds like a song or album title. not a band name.

Ok. here we go. ranting by Ghost.

FHT. Good, in general. but dear god just go along and say its a publicity stunt Billie Joe. We already know you're attracting attention because you want money money money. They're doing what they can to stay profiting because COUNTRY and RAP are taking over the media. Guess what happens when you put Country and Rap in the same word? you Get Crap. Go figure. If that's how they choose to continue their carees in music, then so be it, its good music, and I think everyone agrees.

And don't think they're trying to get away from the sounds of American Idiot. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't know what they've said about that last GD album, but on the Bullet in a Bible album, they said nearly exactly this
We started playing brainstew and all the American Idiot only listeners were like 'huh?' and that was when we knew we were passing Dookie, and we were all 'Yes!'

from that, I imply they wanted to get far away from The Dookie and Warning albums, why? I don't particularly know. Anyone else wanna back me up on this?

Sloane wrote on 07/05/2008 - 07:36 pm / quote |
I can answer your question Gh057. They didn't necessarily mean "Yes!" as in "getting far away from Dookie". They meant that when American Idiot dropped they finally had an album that was as successful as Dookie. Ever since Dookie became an enormous hit, they had it hanging over their heads and have striven to make an album with that much success for their entire career, and they finally did it with American Idiot.

As for the Foxboro deal. It finally shows what the three have been doing all this time.
