Ya gotta love it when a plan comes together.
That's how the folks at Best Buy are feeling these days, as they've started to unload some of the more than 1 million copies of Guns N' Roses
' "Chinese Democracy
" which have been collecting dust in their systems due to lack of public interest.
The retailer placed "Democracy" in its bargain bin recently, making the CD available for just $1.99, and the move is starting to pay off.
"Democracy" sold around 3,200 copies in the US in the week ending Sunday, April 3 - nearly three times the amount (1,200) sold the previous week.
As a result, "Democracy" has sold enough to re-enter the Billboard 200 chart at position No. 198.
As the exclusive U.S. retailer for "Chinese Democracy", Best Buy
reportedly paid $14 million for 1.6 million copies of the album; to date, it has sold just 614,000 copies in the U.S., based on Nielsen SoundScan reports.
Released in November of 2008, "Democracy" was officially certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on February 3, 2009 for shipments in the United States in excess of one million copies.
