Guns N' Roses Guitarist Hopes A Tour Will Happen

Nightwatcher's House Of Rock recently conducted an interview with Guns N' Roses guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Nightwatcher's House Of Rock: Now that "Chinese Democracy" has been released, are you relieved that at last you don't have to continually answer the question, "When is the album coming out?"

Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal: No, because now everyone's saying, "When's the next album coming out?" (Laughs)

So... when's the next GUNS album coming out?

There ya go. I think it was about two days before people starting coming up and asking me, "So, when's the next album coming out?" Man, give us a chance. (Laughs)

Any plans yet for touring that you're aware of?

Right now nothing is confirmed. Nothing is definite. If pieces fall into place, it could happen. That's the most political way I can say I know nothing. (Laughs) In other words, it could happen, I hope it happens, maybe it'll happen, I'd like for it to happen. I know a lot of other people who would like for it to happen, and if everything works out, it will happen. But there are a lot of variables involved, down to every little thing to making sure that all the pieces are in place so that we can do this the right way.

That's a very skillful way of dodging that question, I'm impressed....

Thank you. I'm getting good at this. I think I'm going to run for mayor soon. I've had years of practice now. (Laughs)

What is the one thing that people would be surprised to know about Axl?

I don't know. I find that people that don't know him are the ones that have all these crazy ideas about him. The people that do know him have a lot of good things to say about him. He's got some really nice friends who have become my friends. I've crossed the line from people that don't know him to one who does, and I don't know what people know or don't know anymore. I do know that there's a lot of wrong information about him out there. It kind of bums me out to see and read things that I know are totally bullshit.

i actually met the gnr tour manager at the grocery store i work at, and he said that there is a gnr tour in the works. when i met him he had a broken arm that he said he had tripped over the drum riser. i used to see him once every two weeks but not in a while...maybe they are rehearsing

I love Bumblefoot! I really hope that if there is another album (probably to be released in 2135) that he will be able to go a little crazy on it. I know it's more Axl's project, but Ron needs some creative freedom, or he's gonna erupt.

Saw the new GNR in concert once. One of the best shows i've ever seen in my life. The guitarwork was unreal. First time i've ever seen someone play a fretless guitar. Seen the fretless bass many times but not the fretless guitar.

Sounds like you just another Slash knocker. I'm sorry but GNR today is NOT the GNR of yesterday. While I thought CD wasn't bad, I think the only thing reminding me of GNR in that album is Axl.

All in all, both sides whine too much. It's just a technicality. CD was good for Axls band, but this is another GNR. Not the same GNR that Slash Duff Axl and Steven/Matt.

The Axl bandwagon-hate is really getting old. WE GET IT! He's an *******, but since when has it been right to judge a musician by their personal life? (MJ anybody? People still seem to love his music). Axl was one of the most important members of GNR, (The most important being Izzy). Face it, the old GNR is over. Most of the people in the new GNR have been in the band longer than Slash, Duff, Izzy, Steven and Matt were. It's a new band and if you don't like it, deal with it because Axl doesn't give a **** about your opinion.

You want proof? Look at Velvet Revolver. It's the same lineup aside from Izzy and Axl, and they aren't NEARLY as good as GNR was. Compare GNR to Velvet Revolver, which one's better? Because the only difference is two members. Axl's wailing made that band what it was. Like it or not, he's a great singer and Chinese Democracy shows that.

I personally think it should have been called an Axl Rose solo project, but it wasn't. Face it, using the name seemed like a smart marketing move and you ALL would have done the same thing, it's just business.

Axl Rose said it the best himself. "Some people might complain that it doesn't sound like Guns N' Roses, but most people will like at least a couple of tracks off the album".

Ranting aside, it really is a good album and I urge you all to at least give it a chance. Anybody who likes the album will tell you that the songs get better every time. I didn't like it at first, but the more I listened to it, the more I loved it. If you have already listened to it, good for you, but you should listen to it a couple more times, there will be at least one song that you like. I guarantee that.

Songs like Street of Dreams, This I Love, and Prostitute are actually very good ballads and show that Axl still has a great voice.

Well where do i begin, Bumblefoot im sorry, but you might have to wait a while before you get a tour. He might get fired in a month or so because your style may differ from axl's or "creative differences". If there was a tour, most shows would probably be delayed and most likely start a riot. And to some people above, if slash showed up, all hell would break loose. Nope. They're quite different guitarists. None of them, taking a musically analytical word, "sucks".

This is in no way meant to look down on Slash but to those who blindly go "Slash is God, Axl is an untalented greedy complete jerk" - If he is the only reason why GNR was legendary, why hasn't VR reached the same status? Admit it, there would never be the GNR we used to worship without any one of them.
