Guns N' Roses To Reform. Without Axl

The original lineup of Guns N' Roses--minus lead singer Axl Rose--isrumored to be reuniting to mark the 20th anniversary of the band's seminal debut album Appetite For Destruction.

According to drummer Steven Adler, the event is due to take place on July 28th at the Key Club in Los Angeles.

The club's website states that Adler's Appetite, L.A. Guns, and "very special guests" will appear that night. Adler said: "I'll be down there with my band and Slash, Izzy [Stradlin, guitarist], and Duff [McKagan, bass] will be there too. It's gonna be great."

Adler added that it was unlikely Rose would join his former bandmates, but that he expected a full reunion to happen eventually.

He explained: "Axl and I spoke to each other in Las Vegas recently, and I know there's a chance. It's just too big. Whatever the Stones make when they play, we'd triple it. It'd be ridiculous not to do it. He can't be that goofy."

Rose has recently finished a tour of Japan with his rebranded version of the band.

these are some of the questions ive bein mulling over in my head and ive come to these conclusions.

1. no one can replace axl rose on vocals despite peoples oppinions about how hes a "D-Bag"(DMguitar1), and how they "hate Axl"(imnotastoner) but is this any more guns N roses 'reunited' than axls GnR? no sadly in my oppinion Guns n roses can not exist with out him. but in the same respect GnR to day is still guns n roses... this is an issue I was trying to takle before seeing them live early in july. but after seing the show i had no doubt that this was guns n roses. although no one can compare with slash and duff, but axls still got it! o and dont forget Mr DIzzy READ!!!!! OOOO YEAAAAA.

2. if we were being honest the original line up included Tracii guns. but his work was a pebels work to slashes mighty mountain of might! but its good he will be there with La guns.

Whats wrong with change? Perhaps Axl didn't want every Gn'R album to sound like Appetite for Destruction, that would have been pretty lame.

Umm did you even read the article? The original plan is to have a reunion WITHOUT mr.Rose. Personally, I like the idea, but we've heard this Before from Steven Adler - he needs the reunion, the others don't. Duff & Slash have Velvet Revolver, Axl's hired Bandits are going great guns, even Izzy's not doing too bad for himself. This is Adler's words, and they've been spoken numberous times before. Also, it's just a rumour folks. If there was a rumour that Metallica had decided to split on here, it'd get as much discussion, but it's still a Rumour, not hard fact.

True that. Besides, like GuitarJunkie said, a gnr reunion without axl rose has been going on for the past several years...it's called velvet revolver, I don't think they could get anyone to sing for them like Axl did, the only ones I can think that could match axl's on-stage prowess and excellence are Phil Anselmo and Steve Tyler, and know that one doesn't have the voice (or the interest, probably) for GNR stuff and the other's doing more than well on his own band.

As much as I want this to be true I doubt that it will never happen for real. The only way we could get a true GNR reunion is if Axl publicly apologized to every original band member and kicked his mercenary musicans out of the current GNR, which will probably never happen 'cause Axl's too much of a prima donna for that.

It would be pretty sick however if we do get the official GNR lineup back together, maybe we could even finally end the 10+ year wait for chinese democracy. I wouldn't mind seeing Tracii Guns or Buckethead play with them also.

dude slashs playing isnt about being super fast and ruling guitar battles, its about having soul and always having the best riff or solo for the song. Something he accomplishes quite well in VR, and something Bumblefoot, Buckethead, or any of them cant do nearly as well.

Maybe, but someone as highly regarded as Slash (or at least as arrogant as he is) should at least be at a level of playing beyond your typical high school music student.

If he came out and said "yeah, i'm actually an average player technically" then i'd respect him a lot more. But he's one of the most up-himself people in rock'n'roll. I mean, the only reason Buckethead can get away with having a KFC bucket on his head is that he is among the world's best guitarists in his ability.

If the fact that those members appeared on Appetite entitles them to be considered GnR members, why doesn't the fact that the current line up who will appear on Chinese Democracy entitle THEM to be in GnR too? Your crazy, slash has way better talent than axl. Slash is the best guitarist there is.

Sorry dude but that's just wrong. Not an opinion, it is a false statement - NO other person could front Guns n Roses. It'd be hard to even do what Queen did and have a "Guns n Roses with Sebastian Bach" for example (of course forgetting all licenses etc etc.).

I agreee. Slash and Axl define GnR. The others, no disrespect, are all pretty standard. Axl's unmistakeable voice and Slash's skillful guitar phrases are what make GnR stand out. In my opinion the best GnR tracks could be played by any other bassist, drummer or rythm guitarist.

I beg to differ. I've had people ask me if I was related to axl because of the fact that I can mimic(sp?) his voice. So yes some people CAN sing just like axl. I have a few faves that I do with my band and at Karaoke. Those being, Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child Of Mine, You Could Be Mine, and Paradise City.

Personally I would love to see the original GNR line up back together. They were so much better together than they were apart.
