Hendrix Day Announced In San Francisco

The Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco have announced that on 13 September their city will celebrate Jimi Hendrix Winterland Day in honour of the release of the brand new live album that is released next Monday.

Winterland is a four disc set compiled from recordings of six shows at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom in October 1968.

The day will be capped off by a celebration at Amoeba Records, 1855 Haight Street, starting at 7 PM with Experience Hendrix CEO (and Jimi's sister), Janie Hendrix on hand as well as the one and only Bootsy Collins.

Rare Jimi Hendrix video clips will also be shown in the store over the course of the evening.

For the record, there already is an album called Live at Winterland, I believe it was released in the 80's. It's also possibly Hendrix's greatest live album.

He developed everything from showmanship on stage to the way the instrument was played... Give respect where it is due.

Making noises that before him, didn't exist. Popularized distortion, invented dozens of recording and playing techniques, influenced god knows how many future stars and had one of the most recognizable styles ever (all this in about 4 years). Those are some reasons he's the greatest. There was more to Hendrix then All Along the Watchtower.

This can't be serious. Honestly Jimi Hendrix may be overrated in terms of technical abilities, but his ability to compose music is through the roof. I couldn't imagine being able to write songs like that. Some are downright beautiful.

This guy gets it. Hendrix revolutionized guitar playing and rock music. Even though he only released 3 studio albums in his career, he completely changed the way the studio is used. He saw it as an instrument for making music in itself, much like the Beatles did. So sad that he passed at such a young age. Had he released even one more album, he would have again changed everything and music today would be completely different. I don't care if he wasn't from San Fran, or if he didn't get popular there, or if he didn't have close ties with the community. All that matters is that they respect him enough to honour him. Makes sense to me.
