Igor Cavalera Quits Sepultura

As announced today by Blabbermouth.net, Igor Cavalera announced his departure from Sepultura. Igor founded the band more than 20 years ago together with his brother Max Cavalera, who quit the band 10 years earlier.

"I believe my time in Sepultura has come to an end," Igor said in the statement. "I have a lot of pride in everything we have done, but I feel that the group's current formation does not meet my expectations as a musician and a person. Since my last tour with Sepultura, which took place in Europe in December 2004, I have sensed that my ideas were not compatible with those of the rest of the band.

"I would really like to thank all of the fans that supported me and continue supporting our music. I would also like to thank everybody that worked to make Sepultura the band that it had become."

Andreas Kisser is one my favourite guitarist and is an inspiration to my guitar playing.

Even if Sepultura breaks up after this, I think he should form another band. He is a great guitarist and itll be cool to see him on another project, proving that he is and has always been the Trump Card of Sepultura.

If Sepultura find a new drummer, they should change their name. IMO, if none of the founding members are part of the band, the band no longer exists.

I disagree. I saw Sepultura live on their European tour with In Flames earlier this year. Igor wasn't playing with them on that tour either, but they still sounded very tight and heavy. The replacement drummer was Roy Mayorga who also played with Soulfly in the past (there's a bit of irony in there i'm sure). There's a good chance he'll replace Igor fulltime. He certainly seemed up for the task!

As for their right to exist... My impression was that with the new album, Sepultura finaly found their way out of the shadows of their former self and their time with Max; and are now ready to go their own path.

I believe sepultura can carry on, rember black sabbath when ozzy left? , then gezeer left, and then bill ward. Still toni Iomi continued to make great music. some people might disagree with this, but remember black sabbath was not going to be making "war pigs" and "into the void" clones for ever. bands grow and progress. I hope sepultura can and go further musically without such musical key member. It might be a great start for a new unexplored sound away from Igor's tribal influenced drumming.

i think it is a shame that igor left, i dont think it will be the same anymore the other members arent really gonna want to stay with two orignal members leaving.
