Incubus Hit Back At Religious Protests In The Philippines

Incubus have hit back at a group of religious protesters in the Philippines who are urging people to pray against the band.

A text message which read: "PRAYER ALTERT !! A rock band called INCUBUS s comin 2perform at d Araneta Coliseum on July 28. We Must pRAY this group dUZnt even step on2 Philippine soil so that they dONT impart their spirits in2 our youth!" was circulated in the country last week, after it was announced the band were due to perform at the Araneta Coliseum on July 28.

The message also cited the band's name, claiming it to be: "1. a male demon believed 2lie on sleepin persons 2hav sexual intercourse w/them; 2. a situation resembling a terrifying dream; 3. Some1 who depresses or worries others."

Now, guitarist Mike Einziger has hit back at the protesters and said he feels "sorry for them".

"I've heard people were worried us about bringing our evil music to the holy land there", he told Rolling Stone. "In a certain way, it's kind of an honor and I do very much treat it with a sense of humour."

"Unfortunately the people who are sending those kinds of messages, they're not treating it with a sense of humor", he added. "They're very serious about it and I think it's just a part of a larger problem that affects us on a global scale, which is that religious extremism runs rampant."

I'm not a big fan of this band anymore, but this was well said. This may seem a bit funny now, but he's right. This is a far bigger problem because this kind of crap happens everywhere. Extremism does more harm than good (obvious statement is obvious).

not an incubus fan, and definitely not an atheist, but yeah... i agree with you tol... it just doesn't make sense. music is music. religion is religion. what they're showing in that chain message is overkill faith. so much faith that it doesn't make sense.

Nothing. What's wrong with you for not being able to understand a joke?

This news is so confusing. I could understand a metal band or something, but the only thing maybe slightly sacrilegious or 'violent' about Incubus is the band name, and even that isn't very bad and is mostly connected to superstitions and mysticism instead of religious beliefs. I believe in religious tolerance, but this is just mind numbingly stupid.
