Incubus Top Albums Chart

California rock band Incubus earned its first No. 1 album on the U.S. pop charts Wednesday, though sales were less than half those of its previous release.

Incubus sold 165,000 copies of "Light Grenades" (Epic) during the week ended December 3, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its last set, 2004's "A Crow Left Of The Murder," debuted at No. 2 with 332,000 units.

After six weeks, the former chart-topping soundtrack to the Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana" rebounded five places to No. 2 with 157,000 units. Former "American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry's "Daughtry" slipped one to No. 3 with 156,000 in its second week.

The multi-label hits compilation "NOW 23" fell one to No. 4 with 154,000. The Beatles' "Love" was also down one, to no. 5 with 146,000. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come" tumbled to No. 6 with 140,000.

Overall, album sales were down 13.3% from last week's count and down 5.1% compared to the same week a year ago at 14.75 million units. Sales for 2006 are down 5% compared to 2005 at 500.5 million units.

That song Anna Molly is on this album. Personally, I'm not a fan of it. Ever since Dirk left, their music has been shit IMO. If that song is any indication of the rest of the album, I don't think it deserves to be #1.

Incubus is a pretty good band, but this number #1 album is just a product of there past popularity and achievements. In other words I dont think they have much left in the tank.

Incubus is still a great band. Personally, I love the new CD. It does sound different but you have to expect that with about every band these days. Every good band evolves and reinvents themselves with each new CD. If you are expecting to hear S.C.I.E.N.C.E. or morning view then you will be dissappointed. But, if you want something new and different that pick up the CD. It's good.

I think they deserved it. I've listened to this album almost nonstop for the past week and a half, so yeah, it's good. Definitely not their best, but much better than most music that's out right now.

This album is pretty kick ass...I hear alot of mixed emotions about it, but it's got a great sound. Is it me, or does it sound a little Mars Volta-ish at times. Anyway I pre-ordered it so I could get a pre-sale on the concert tickets and it wouldn't let me use it on the NY show. Now the ****ing things sold out in one day and I can't go. oh and smith05...instead of complaining that incubus are in the same chart as a disney cd, why dont you just be happy that they are at the top? People are always complaing that no good musicis at the top of the chart, and then when it is, people bitch and moan about that too. For christs sake, get over your 'im the only person that should like this music because it makes me look cool' attitude and just be happy that for once, a ****in talented band is at the top instead of some shitty ass pop group

I'm going to have to agree with the majority of people here. Incubus' latest efforts were a bit feeble. It's still good though, probably cuz I like anything by them, but not one of my favorites by them. I'm glad that they're finall getting the recognition that they deserve, but personally, I'd rather it be for one of their older albums.

Should be getting light grenades for christmas. From what I've heard on their myspace the new album is pretty good, although I don't think as good as their past stuff. Still good though.

Who said it's a conscious choice? I doubt they sit down and say "hmm, let's destroy our musical credibility and make what we think will sell." You don't know how you would act in their position so don't make judgements.

First off,Einziger has some ****ing dirty distortion on the album (i.e.light grenades,earth to bella etc.) You people just need to sit down and listen to it a couple times in order to comprehend it. They also use a ton of different instruments which most you people probably do not hear because you have the mind set that the album is going to suck before you actually listen to it. Of course it doesnt compare to SCIENCE but all of incubus's albums are always completely different from the rest. There is a reason why they have sold over 100,000 copies.

Great album, great band. Still miss the bass playing from Dirk Lance but the music is tight, original & layered! This cd is well worth buying!

And the drop in cd sales is due to the increase of p2p software and easier access of free music online!

Why would they be pissed? If they are at the top of the pop charts, then I GUARANTEE they are at the top of the rock charts as well. Good album, different from the rest as always. As with ACLOTM, the more you listen to it, the better it gets

Thats pretty ****in awesome this is a really good CD. Incubus is a band that changes and evolves with each CD but yet it's still easy to tell it's the same band despite major changes in musical direction. I friggen love them.

Except if you actually read it, you'd see that they actually sold less than half of their last album, which definitely was not a poppy album. Way to sound dumb.

As for the album, I love it. Took a while, but there's only one song on there that is too poppy (Diamonds And Coal). The rest are well written songs and if people are calling them pop songs than they're damn good pop songs.

I'm saying that Incubus deserves more credit than to be on a chart with some little girl and a compilation of songs from shitty "musicians". I see alot of mixed reviews on the album. In my opinion, its good, but its not GREAT. Its a lot different from their past albums, but there are a few really amazing songs. Check out Dig, A Kiss To Send Us Off, Love Hurts, Quicksand(amazing song, listen to it high), and Earth To Bella Pt. 2.

I thought this album was a good bit better than the previous (which isn't saying much). I enjoyed about half the songs. Sounds to me like they are slipping away from made Incubus, Incubus. But, I still love them and am going to see them January. Woot!

smith is absolutly right.. its ridiculous that they can put incubus, disney and jay z in the same category. at least incubus is on top of all the other crap but still.. a little more spcific would probably give the band a little more credit.

I think just beacuse i love the band so much i kindda like this album too, thought i wans't interested to listen to it for the third time. I kindda hate that they are beginning to sound like other rock bands and losing their unique sound from previous albums like Morning view & make yourself. i wonder what they'll come up with next.
