Italian Guns N' Roses Fan Site Shuts Down Showing Protest

artist: guns n roses date: 03/08/2007 category: general music news
rating: 0 / votes: 0

Italian Guns N' Roses fan site/community GNRonline.it has officially shut down as a result of the lack of official information regarding the band and the group's long-awaited new album "Chinese Democracy". The GNRonline.it administrators have issued the following statement regarding the matter, according to Blabbermouth.net:

"We regret to tell you that in relation to the protest we started on December 7th 2006, our Guns fan sites and forums, GNRonline.it and GNRonline.org, will be shut down at once. The never-ending saga of 'Chinese Democracy', the lack of respect, clearness and mutual loyalty are just some of the reasons that has brought us down to this painful conclusion.

"Until now our detractors have always accused us of being 'Axl fanatics' (and to a certain degree, it is probably true) but today we aren't able to sustain Axl's project anymore, neither financially nor economically. We just can't afford to waste our heads on a project that has never even taken us into consideration. We gladly leave that to other 'fan' sites and forums that have the will and passion to be fooled around one more time. It is also sad that the aforementioned websites and forums, most of whom claim to have direct links to the GNR camp, have built a wall between them and other sites like ours (as well every other fan out there), reluctant to even start collaborations from whom we all would have benefit from.

"GNRonline shutting down will not only affect the flow of GNR news and discussions in Italy, but it will also tear apart a community of 3500 users who have been maintaining daily relationships and friendship through this website for many years now. Coherence though is one thing that have always been a key point of our conducts, and despite the fact that closing down upsets us a lot, this is the only thing that makes sense to do at this point.

"We still want to believe in Axl Rose and his record and we greatly wish that 'Chinese Democracy' would see the light of day before February 2008. If that will be the case we will make our best effort to re-open the site otherwise our domains will be lost and that will be the end of it."

I agree, screw Axl and G&R. Here in Minneapolis, Tommy Stinson is revered due to being in the beloved local band, The Replacements, but as time goes on, both Tommy and his fans are missing out on what could be a successful solo career.

And as his own mother said in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, "I wish he'd get away from Axl Rose and do something where he can actually have fun and accomplish something". Perhaps he should join Paul Westerberg (as they both want to do) for a reunion tour and album, that would be huge. And compared to the old days when they were so wasted and couldn't make it through 3 songs, they would be incredible now that they are older, wiser and a little more sober!

Slash and the others are right. Though Axl has so many opportunities and is awesome when he wants to be, he is unfortunately not with it upstairs.

UG should mount a protest by refusing to post any more news about the fiasco that is Chinese democracy. I and others, I'm, sure are just sick of hearing about it now. Maybe if people ignore Axl he'll be forced to actually release the album to get our attention again.

I agree... we need to stop posting about Guns n' Roses in the news until it's actually released. I'm sick and tired of hearing about it, and I know for a fact most of the UG community is too.

I am probably the biggest gnr fan that I know of. And probably the most loyal. So it is hard for me to finally admit that I have been pushed to my wits end with this album. Axl had everyone back in the palm of his hands in 2006 with the tour and all. It would of been a sweet victory to release that album just after the tour while everyone was interested. It would have been huge. But now, I dont see how he will regain peoples interest. I will get it regardless, but there are a lot of haters that will intentionally ignore it because of this. Which is too bad for Axl and what could of been a new legion of Guns fans. One thing I do have to mention a bit off topic, since when did dizzy reed become such a pompous ass? In the illusion days he used to be the only cool layed back funny one, but now he is so far up Axl's ass that its almost embarrassing to hear him to an interview. Its like he doesn't have a personality of his own. Anyone agree on this?

We should declare some day as "I Hate Axl Day".

I vote for Everyday to be "I Hate Axl Day".

I have actually stopped caring about Chinese democracy, I largely don't read guns n roses articles on ultimate-guitar and this just goes to show that you can't abandon your fans.

I think when this album comes out, no one should buy it. It would be the perfect way to say '**** you' to axl and his back up band. If you really want the album, just download it. Anyone else agree?

it would be, but could you imagine trying to stop millions of fans from buying what they have been waiting 10 years for?

Actually he didn't have his ass kicked by tommy hilfiger because axl was scared, he tried not to be the ******* he once was, I guess he is trying to change, who knows.. after all it was a birthday party for Rosario Dawson and didn't want to be the one to **** things up like St. Louis for example.. Axl can get 100 punches and say ouch but it would only be one punch from him which knocks Tommy down.. I know axl has been an ******* but cmon lets give the poor guy a chance..

by the time this album is ready to be released [if ever] there will be democracy in China, therefore, the album's name will need to be changed, causing another 30 years of delay.

I have two things to say about this.

First, I think they are right to be pissed about the album wait, it's been over a decade, and the album has been in the making for a long time. Axl Rose is an ***hole.

Second, this is EXTREMELY selfish of the makers of the site. It may be economically hard, but when I read the phrase, "...community of 3500 users who have been maintaining daily relationships and friendship through this website for many years now.", I just got to thinking, what if myspace was torn down because of a protest to President Bush? Well, first off, there would be a lot of angry people. Some like Bush, some like Axl, some don't mind the war, some don't mind waiting for the new album. Some have relationships that are only tied between the two said sites.

axl has never pandered to the whims of recording company bosses and his rebellious streak has made him the one n only rock star of the last quater fo this century, so y expect him to be any different now!

Give the "poor guy" a chance... I THINK NOT! Im only 15, i wasnt even around when GnR was at their best, and I have still been waiting for the new album for ages! Ive now decided I WILL NOT buy it, but instead I will go back to Metallica. They are supposed to be releasing an album this year i excited xD
