Jimi Hendrix Is Coming To 'Guitar Hero'

Jimi Hendrix's music and likeness is being provided for the latest "Guitar Hero" video game.

The Seattle-based company Experience Hendrix, which controls the rock icon's musical legacy, is providing Hendrix's music and likeness for the latest "Guitar Hero" video game, Aaron Grant, a spokesman for publisher and developer Activision and Red Octane, told The Associated Press on Thursday.

It's the first time Hendrix's likeness will be showcased in the game.

An avatar of Hendrix as well as the song "The Wind Cries Mary" and a live version of "Purple Haze," which was recorded in 1969 at the San Diego Sports Arena, will be included on "Guitar Hero World Tour" -- the fourth edition of the popular game franchise scheduled for release Oct. 27.

"World Tour" will be the first "Guitar Hero" to feature playable drums and a microphone.

I suppose thats subjective. I don't think he should be in it because its cheapening his reputation, and while I don't think he was the best guitarist ever (Jimmy Page FTW!) he was a great.

i'd compare guitar hero to real guitar. it's like a roller coaster compared to a sports car. you have to stay on the tracks and it only takes you so far.

Yeah spanish castle magic was on the first one but they didn't put the vocals on the track, but it's still a hendrix song.

I like these games, but this is just too far. Hendrix's songs are fine, but making him a playable character is just shrinking his reputation. You know some little bastard is going to make a pun "I can play as good as Hendrix". This is why I play Rock Band, at least they can respect the musicians. *I play guitar, no flaming*

Yeah, Spanish Castle Magic was in the first one, vocals taken out. But you can hear the version with vocals on Guitar Hero 1's website, and you'll see why they were taken out.

I can see the Hendrix fanboys getting riled up about it... although they should be happy that Hendrix is going to be introduced to a generation of people that may not have heard of him otherwise. These games are a great way for bands and artists to get their music out to the masses, which is part of what being an artist is- to get your music heard. It doesn't matter how it's delivered.

Seriously, as a real hendrix fan, Im going to be greatly annoyed when this game comes out and people wont shut the hell up about the game and him being in it.

Gh looks like its having the better tracklist, but because of this I dont think I will buy it. Besides, I already got a lot of dlc that will actually work with the next game. At least they arent trying to sign all these rockstars to put themselves in the game just to sell more copies, I respect them more for that. They get my 60 bucks, not activision. I mean its one thing for them to rape their own series, but to rape the memory of jimi hendrix is a whole different story.
