John Mayer News

artist: john mayer date: 04/06/2004 category: general music news

John Mayer will be having his one night only gig with 19 year old New Zealand guitarist/singer/songwriter Brooke Fraser (check out www.brookefraser.com) on next Tuesday (NZT) in North Shore Events Centre.

Brooke is the daughter of the former All-Black rugby great Bernie Fraser (maybe it was this connection that enabled her to shoot a MTV with 'Vertical Limit' cameo & 'Once Were Warriors' star Temura Morrison in her debut single - 'Better'). She can seriously learn a lot from John Mayer's sometimes 'obscure' chord style and combinations.

John Mayer needs no introduction to most of you. He is a Grammy winner for 'Room For Squares' which sold millions of copies in the US. Now into his 2nd album 'Heavier Things' which prompts a more electric guitar-based songs.

As for the venue, the North Shore Events Centre at the northern Auckland of is a multi-purpose building that is normally an indoor basketball-netball venue. Tickets from ticktek (NZ only), but they're going out fast.

It makes me sick to read that musicians will put down fellow musicians like this. Can it get anymore immature? We should support eachother's artistry, not put others down. John Mayer, as well as Metallica, are great artists, each with their own certain style of music, I would bet that Metallica would be sickened to see some of their fans childishly making fun of another artist like that. Metallica has respect for fellow artists. Whether it's your preference of music or not, it doesn't matter, obviously, someone out there likes it, so respect it, if nothing else just keep your fingers quiet and respect. Or, just dont read the article. Let's all support one another, not hate.

yea.. I agree ! you have to respect all music. but for each their own. if you don't like John Mayer's music then fine. click somewhere else and be happy. But if you knew anything about playing a guitar you would respect his talent enough said.

Wow, this is probably the most mature person I've seen on UG all day. Props mate I happen to think John Mayer is a pretty stinkin good pop guitarist. And yes everyone, please stop being an embarassment to Metallica. I'm sure they themselves wouldn't be acting that childish. At least I would hope not...

Yeah, gotta agree, Mayer is an excellent guitar player, he does a nice version of Hendrix's "The Wind cried Mary". I was wondering, why do so many people hate him now? I heard Dave Chappelle regreted having him on his show, and I think it was the cartoon "Family Guy" that said something like "That's enough, John Mayer!". I don't think it's because he's gay or something, and even if he was he's still an awesome guitarist. Can anyone elaborate an answer?

maddog22 :
lol I like what gatlin121 said. way to be! John Mayer stays true to the original blues style which a lot of guitar players today seem to forget. Blues is the basis for all forms of music, country, rock, metal, everthing started with the blues. Mayer still has that same great style that I love to listen to. John Mayer rules! If you don't like him, then why are you even checking out the latest news on him?

tytepants! :
I think that John Mayer is one of the greatest songwriters, both musically and lyrically, in the world today. I would argue that his new album is perfect. He has proven himself in his mastery of the guitar, as well as his absoloute lyrical genius. I know that some people may consider him to be somewhat arrogant, but perhaps he earned the right to be? While many people do think of him as just another "pop-rock-pussy," writing love songs and the like, I believe he is much deeper than that. His powerful lyrics and his pleasant, feel-good melodies truely make him an amazing songwriter, whether all you metal fans would consider him to be or not. You know the music must be good when you can listen to it and walk away in a different mood.

I thought so too, but I just read somewhere that he doesn't even write his own songs...

yourillusion :
actually scratch that. looks like he does write most of them. In an interview, he credited Richard Marx for some songs (not specifics) but I can't find any.
